I didn't know you built your own base till I saw you guys posting it, kinda makes me want it more. Do you meet characters in game who become part of your settlement?

With the settlers... You save the settlement, then they help your cause, so that's how you meet the main ones. All the other guys come after hearing of the good things.

I haven't walled off Sanctuary, but I have a few machine guns and lights around, and some good fortifications at the bridges.
I spent a few hours last night ripping it all down and redoing it, haha. They've done an awesome job at making the building aspect pretty easy. Settlers and supply chains etc are a bit tricky to learn, they don't have much for a tutorial on anything.
Also not sure how the cow got on the roof...

That's epic haha, I can't wait to see what people will have built after a couple weeks. I'd like to turn sanctuary into a giant castle, screw the storyline amirite?!

edit: looks like someone already did it... http://imgur.com/a/n1Nmp

That's an impressive base.

Thanks guys :)
I don't know why I do this to myself....
I made the mistake of deleting and not re-saving my game... so I got stuck 25+ hours behind where I was. Decided uckfay it, I'll play the game instead of wasting hours making a base.

Works well for a while. And then I notice that I've hit a cap in Sanctuary for settlers. So I throw together a couple defenses and whatnot....
3 hours later, I've made a wall around half of the whole damn place, turrets along the whole length, built up the wall by the river and threw a bunch of emplacements... it's on the scale of a full sized castle!

I tried wiping them out with the power armor/minigun  when they were travelling to Sanctuary right after saving them. Pretty disappointed the game wouldn't let me. Open sandbox my assay.

They are important for later on in the game, and you do get decent perks from them... Good weapons and such.

Broadsider is my new favorite weapon, if only the cannonballs were more available.

Sure did.

I'm slowly working towards having a suit of Power Armour in every settlement.

Blowing people with with a teddy bear is a pretty fun thing to do. Although my issue with the junk jet is my attachment to every piece of junk that I have in thoughts that it may eventually prove useful.

I have a silenced legendary pipe rifle that does extra damage at night with a .50cal conversion, a plasma sniper, a10mm silenced with critical bonuses, and the railway rifle level 40  :) Lots of mods

 Level 54...

1) Endless 10mil silenced with reflex. not so good damage, but the insane amount of shots I can take in VATS and ability to not reload make up for it.
2) Wazer Wifle, endless laser rifle modded to a shotgun. Yeah, it's awesome.
3) Broadsider with three shot before loading. So impractical, but with VATS, it's perfect.
4) Long range syringe rifle with long tactical scope. Rather useful with the bezerk syringe, shoot the bandit in the power armour, watch him kill a couple guys, rinse repeat until it's just him. then;
5) .50 Cal rifle with long tactical scope with extra VATS hit percentage, aim for fusion core, causes the core to blow up, the bandit to get out, which I kill the last bandit, hop in the power suit and run away.
6) For the death claws, a modified gatling laser rifle, which I lifted from the brotherhood of steel.
7) Railway rifle for the sheer joy of spiking heads, arms, or legs to the wall.

I'm currently sitting at 7 brotherhood complete power armours because I kept stealing them from the people, and 4 or 5 other shells that i have found or stolen from bandits and military checkpoints or bases.

Needed to use my vacation hours somehow, so I took the launch week off and binged. Then I play an hour or so a couple nights a week.

I was trying to figure out a way to monetize settlements.

I think slave farming mukfruit is the way to go. I also found out last night that you can craft adhesives from plant material. Vegetable starch is iirc corn, mukfruit, and water. Due to this being a requirement for, like every single armour mod and most weapons, it seems like a sweet thing to farm.

Does anyone know what the point of the "scavenging bench" is?

Does anyone know if you can get residents to harvest fruit for you and stockpile it? (instead of just adding to your "food" points?)

I started a adhesive slave labor camp at red rocket. But i still dont understand how farming works at all. because you know, zero tutorial. According to reddit, one person can run 6 crops at once, but sometimes these lazy untcays arent even doing anything! I literally dont have any other tasks for them t do.... And one of them keeps sleeping in my bed. >:(
I should have made it somewhere else...
I strip my guys all nude and make em wear silly hats as a way of making myself feel better.

[/img]

Heres the red rocket defense.

And I also have found out that the scavenging tables take one person and they drop junk into that towns workbech (!!!). WITH preference to flagged items! how cool is that.
So I did the only correct thing and built 7 benches at sanctuary. Now I need to stack charisma to a) get more followers and b) set up a supply chain back to red rocket.

Heres kitten palace. I was trying to build a full skeleton on the toilet but it requires more patience than i have..
