No-start after re-build 2.5 dohc.
« on: November 26, 2015, 12:57:36 pm »
Hi, Looking for a couple ideas.
We just finished a HG job on a 2.5 DOHC.
Now it starts, runs for about 5 seconds... then stops.
No CELS's
Any ideas on where to start looking?.
While it is running it runs smooth, and if you touch the gas, it dies sooner than the 5 seconds.
Im guessing we missed something basic, but Im a bit baffled, any help/pointers much appreciated.
thanks

checked timing?
checked MAF?
checked for Vac leak?
check Fuel pressure?

As noted, maybe fuel.

But...

Does it have remote start/security? I had a vehicle that did that and there was a wire for the remote start that became disconnected. I believe it was spliced into the injector.

Thanks for the quick responses.
Answers:
timing is good -it does run perfectly for about 5 seconds, (and T-belt timing I double checked)
MAF is good, I unplugged it, and the result was the same.. except I got a MAF CEL -yeah! that works
no Vac leaks that I can find (a bit hard when it only runs 5 seconds)
Yes the fuel is very suspect, as it almost seems that the car does not know it's running, & therefore shuts off the fuel, I'll put my FPG on it next.

It does have remote start/security, and i've re-hooked up the "tach" wire that feeds it and the aftermarket cruise control, but I'll trace it back inside the cabin just to make sure there are no "gotcha's"

Double check all your harnesses and connectors. When I did the HG on my 2.5L, I had missed one connector in the back right of the engine, and it would idle fine, no CELs, but would die shortly after.

I wanna say it was the water temp gauge underneath the intake, passenger side, real pain in the assay.

Yeah I was gonna say check all your temp sensors. Sounds like its coming off cranking enrichment and flooding it. too bad you dont have a super loud fuel pump so you can hear it from the cabin like me. Could be priming the system on "on" and then not running afterwards, allowing the car to run off just the residual pressure in the rails.

That is exactly my guess based on the time it runs and the "way" it stalls..

tonite I'll do a bunch of poking and prodding, as well as turn my homemade boost leak checker into a home made vacuum leak checker

Problem solved. It was the idle air solenoid. The car would actually stay running if you kept revving it we found out. So we removed the idle air solenoid- re indexed it. And all is good.
