Yes, I've moved on from Fireball and now have traded/purchased what I will be calling:

THE KRAKEN
(because it's black)

COMING SOON TO A RALLY STAGE NEAR YOU, BEWARE ITS TURBO DESTROYING POWER

THE HORROR

Now that's out of my system..

It's a 1998 2.5RS with a newly rebuilt motor, I'm optimistic on the power, but anything will be a power upgrade from my tired 2.2
if you're familiar with Rally, it was Matt Charlton / Martin Burnley's car that had issues at Cochrane 2015. It's been around in the scene for a bit.

Azam at CAMS had rebuilt the car and has been getting it ready, new clutch and rear main seal, transmission mounts, swapped seats and belts and fire extinguishers over and in general a nice refresh of the car. The cage has also been updated, with new cross bars at the doors and behind the seats, so I get a brand new logbook!

First event in the car will be the Big White Winter Rally, which, regardless of how it sounds, is not a racially motivated event.

Pictures and videos soon...

You're surprised it's a Subaru? I don't think I'll be racing a non-Subaru for a loooooong time, and if I do, it will be a 2WD.

Ah, too bad it's not a wagon...  It could've been the Krakenwagen!

But congrats on the upgrade :)

When did I say I was suprised? lol

After a brief google search, I now know what the car looks like  :haplo90:

Just got it home and parked in the garage, woop dee woop!

It's really clean, cage is nice and sturdy and the car is set up just perfectly for Big White. Runs great on 94. I wouldn't describe it as fast, but with shorter gears and more power, the delivery is SMOOTH and it keeps pulling all the way to redline at 130+. It should turn out to be really fast on stages where smooth power delivery is important.

Huge thanks to Azam at CAMS for getting it all ready and putting in lots of hours just to prep it for Big White.
And unlike Fireball, this one is a little more 'streetable' so I may just have to bring it to a meet one day ;)

Interesting to see how this roll cage setup compares to your old car. Looks like quite the maneuver is required to get into the drivers seat of your new one.

The new car looks mean!! You definetly need to take me for a spin one of these days >:D
Shell looks like its in really good shape too. I cant see any rust.

Yup Cole the new car is a pain in the assay to get in and out of, but should protect us better in case of an incident. Azam put those new cross-braces in to sturdy it up.

It definitely handles real well, counting down the days until Big White for sure!

Those "FIA Bars" are a good thing... Even if they mean you have to do a specific gyration to get in/out.

I have to put a bunch of gentle shifts and slips on the clutch to break it in before racing, so sounds like I will be going to the meet this week assuming nothing else changes :)

This one would be fine to daily, but my mind always goes to the worst-case scenario of some idiot hitting me in it and totaling the race car..

Thanks Adam!

One funny thing that happened during my test drive, is I guess the horn wires wiggled loose, so now when I stomp on the brakes the horn goes off. I seem to remember that being a prank they pulled on James May on Top Gear :D :D

But problematic while transiting through towns, the service park, WSC meet parking lots....

So quite the long list of things to do before I leave Friday.. some of these are more time consuming that the others:

Affix Names,Door cars and windshield decal
Secure Fire Extinguishers
Install Belts
Fab up a mount for, and wire Aux Lights
Mount and wire up the map light
Mount Triangles, Spill Kit, First Aid
Hardwire intercom because battery module isn't working
Check all fluids
Mount Spare and Spare Repair Kit
Mount and wire cameras

There's a new puddle of fluid under the rear diff so I will have to investigate that before I go, which means taking off the rear skid plate and rear diff guard.

Thanks Nathan.

I crossed a few things off the list today with help from Geoff / Durandal. Next up is metalwork and some wiring, should be able to get that finished tomorrow.

Big thanks to my friend Rob Rubenok and Durandal/Geoff for the help tonight. Wired up the lights, intercom and map light. Built a metal support for mounting the light on the front of the car, but one of the holes needs to be filed/reamed out to fit.

Put names and country flags on tonight as well. All that's left is to check my fluids, finish mounting the emergency bag-o-tools-and-parts in the car, put some street miles on the car to break in the clutch, and then put the competition wheels and tires on and go to town!

Aux light is all mounted up, super sturdy and just in the perfect place. Put in the camera mounts, just need to get some USB cables and run and ziptie them around the cabin.
Also put on the competition wheels, one of them rubs a bit under cornering so I might uckfay with the ride height a touch on that corner.

Have to do final check of fluids, and we're gravy baby!

Cig lighter isn't providing power, so I can't power up the cameras. I'll probably just run one at a time until it runs out of batteries, and then switch to the second one. _MIGHT_ get in there tomorrow to see what's going on, but already got in there and it's a bit of a rat's nest. 10% chance there's a fuse I forgot to replace that's the sole cause of the problem.

Lastly, the horn isn't working at all. Might be loose wires, but I took the wheel off and everything looked normal. Not sure how or what to test for with a voltmeter under there to pinpoint where the problem is.

Not that I'd ever suggest it, but that part is part of the self-declaration, and if you don't post incriminating evidence on the internet *cough*, its tough to prove that it didn't stop working during the event...  ;)

Am I allowed to say stuff like that? Crap, I was getting used to no longer being a volunteer... uh, don't do what I just said. It would make you a bad person. Seriously  :-X
