2007 2.5i Impreza timing belt change...
« on: December 07, 2015, 08:40:28 am »
So it's about time that I get my timing belt done. Just wondering if anyone has changed their timing belt on a 2.5i, if so what is the difficulty level for this? I'm by no means a mechanic but I do all basic maintenance on my car (oil changes, brakes and rotors as well as valve cover gaskets on my old wrx). Best place for parts? Recommend getting a mechanic to do it or is it fairly simple? I believe I can get the whole kit with the water pump for around 400$. Thanks.

Relatively speaking, it's super easy.
Rockauto has been the best price for the Gates kit. Unsure if that's still true with the current exchange rate.
$227

It sounds like you have the skills to do it yourself.
Read up on it.
With the SOHC, it's super easy compared to DOHC that the turbos have.

Yeah, I had watched a video and it seemed fairly simple just time consuming. That looks like a great deal. I'll have to see how much it comes to with taxes and exchange rate. I guess I'm just hesitant about messing up but I think it will be fine. Thanks man!

Just make sure to check that you have everything when it arrives. When I got one for my sister, they had forgotten the tensioner, and I didn't check until install day.
Canadian Tire had one, but it was the same cost as the entire kit!

My tip was I got snackers to do it while I worked on the brakes or something.
