Phonograph! What?! Ohh, Vinyl
« on: December 09, 2015, 08:52:47 pm »
Anyone else spin vinyl? I'm not a huge audiophile, but I like having access to play whatever. And it has good sound to it, not crisp or refined, and a little scratchy, it's definitely an enjoyable medium. While cleaning out my mom's basement for her move, I came across her old stereo and about 30 to 40 LPs, which hasn't been seen since the dvd player came home for Christmas.

I half dibs it, half was given it, and carried it home.

It fit in the mr2, which I will clutter "what have you stuffed" thread. Suffice to say, it was a tight squeeze.

Here's the quick and dirty for quick and dirty setup. (The records are sitting in a shelf in a far more organized fashion now)

It's a Sanyo FM, cassette, and phonograph combo. Which mom bought in 1986 new with cash. She stresses the cash. So yes, this is as old as my car, and... A half dozen years older than me.

Her collection mostly is Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper, although I found this:

Yes, Meatloaf.

I know of one place in Calgary on the west side of downtown that sells records, but is there anywhere else I can check out to find some stuff?
