New Zealand Delayed Honeymoon
« on: December 05, 2015, 12:24:13 am »
So at our wedding we had 2 tip jars at the bar (it was an open bar) with the locations that we wanted to go to for our delayed honeymoon. The two jars were New Zealand (the wife's choice) or Switzerland (mine). The jar at the end of the night with the most money in it was where we would go on our honeymoon once we had time in our busy lives. After the night ended and the jars were tallyed up NZ won by $2. I recount was demanded! Turned out is was the truth! Guess we were going to NZ at some point. After watching the flights for a few months we finally found a decent seat sale and pulled the trigger.

We took over 5,000 pictures during our 3.5 weeks there so if you want to follow along more closely look over here. http://theadventuresoftwo.blogspot.ca/
Here's some of the best pictures we took though. We camped in our tent for the most part though. Who camps in a tent for their honeymoon in NZ for most of the time in  +5*C or less nighttime temps... The guy with the greatest girl in the world! This guy! :D

Auckland at 6:30am after our long flight.

The good thing about *cold* weather is that it's deserted.

A short hike into Kaiate falls.

We were usually camping by ourselves in the tenting areas. Good thing we came prepared for camping in spring temperatures though because it was bloody cold even in our Canadian camping gear.

Had to stop in Hobbiton

Another camping ground to ourselves

Very cool..  how did you know where to go?
They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?

We did a little research online before we left, mainly using tripadvisor and made a Google map with campgrounds and things we would like to see.

We didn't have much of a plan regarding a time line and what we were going to do. We booked a hotel in Auckland, Wellington, and Queenstown. So we knew we had to be in those places at a certain day. The rest was up in the air. We didn't do everything on the map but it was good to have lots on it so we could pick and choose along the way.

Once we arrived in Auckland we bought a traveller sim card for $40 for the month with 3gb of data so we could access the map we made and get around using Google maps.

And we found this great site/app that had campgrounds and hikes on it.

We finished updating our blog on the trip and making it a little easier to navigate so here's the link to the start of our trip.
