I also have the dash rattle when it gets cold. I've read the only sure fire way to fix it is to take the entire dash apart and re-do the tape on all the connections coming through the dash.

My GR had the A pillar rattle. Never ended up fixing it before I sold it. Double sided foam tape where it joins the dash is my guess.

VEX also changed my fluid < 8000 km ago and I also notice the notchiness. I work the shifter slower until it feels smoother, takes a few minutes of driving. I don't force the shifter is how I would describe it. Foreplay.

What did VEX put in your cars?

Educated guess motylgear 75w90. I haven't noticed much of the cold notchyness with my tranny running the fluid, but my fozzy stays in the heated parking garage.

I drove my STI with the original Subaru Extra-S fill, then Motylgear 75W90, and then Gear 300 75W90.
The WRX got cheap Motorcraft 80W90 as a "flush" for a few thousand KM, then Gear 300/Shockproof.

All of it felt exactly the same to me. Subaru just doesn't make a real smooth transmission.

A review about the WRX described the shifting as "a stick through a donut into a bucket of gravel".

Is that your review?  Sounds like a good read. Got a link?

I paraphrased poorly - start at around 5:50 for shifty talk. The whole video is pretty entertaining.

This. It was provided in the "fluid change" special VEX put on around this time last year. Something about how the shifter feels when it's cold is.... not right. When I get to the stop sign at the end of my street right after leaving my house, its pretty tough to get the car into first gear. Even tougher than the >300,000km 5 speed trans in the wagon. It feels great as the car gets closer to operating temp though. This fluid probably just doesn't like to be cold.

Thats a pretty cool idea, and I have considered options like that, but shortly down the road I would like to retrofit a full touch-screen unit to use that will allow me to do all kinds of things apart from just adding bluetooth such as changing songs from the screen, utilixing steering wheel controls, improving sound quality, adding a sub, etc... For now, the aux cable is just fine.

Car looked really good when I saw it yesterday. I'm not sure how to describe it, but driving off, it was smooth and sleek. I'd avoid high speeds if it shakes that bad though...  I'll get the Wagon back to you as soon as I can!

(late) Thanks for the compliment Johnny. It doesn't look too bad from a distance, but there is room for improvement. I say it is a 10ft to 15ft car :)

There is a 3D printing development thread on lgt.com, where a guy developed and made a big batch of DRS's (Dash Rattle Stoppers). We should order a big bag full of DRS's, organize a WSC LGT meet, and hand these things out as souvenirs to those who attend.

And now I find myself fb creeping him.  Man, these MT staff sure like selfies.

I didn't hear any dash rattles driving into work today in his car.  Hopefully they worked?

I haven't installed them yet. The dash rattle only seems to happen some of the time.

I figured I would wait till spring to take the dash apart

The door rattle in the passenger door is realllly annoying though. Any time you listen to a song with any amount of bass, the rattling gets really intense >:(
