Topic: 04 XT Hard Stumble when on/off throttle

So recently my car has developed a "stumble". It will do it when I'm on and off the throttle between 2-3k RPM and sometimes when just cruising in third gear at the same speed it feels like it stumbles. The third gear thing leads me to believe that it is something trans related but does that make any sense that is its RPM dependent? Any suggestions on what to look for without actually pulling the trans apart? I'm thinking of just doing a trans flush and seeings if that remedies the situation but I don't want to just blindly throw money at a problem.

How long since spark plugs?
I assume no CEL to show a misfire?
Do you have any way to log the engine to make sure it isn't engine related?

Mmm not sure on spark plugs, They haven't been done in my time of ownership and I don't know when the PO did them. Didn't really think about that. No CEL to show nope. I do have an AP I could log with, might be hard cause it can be sporadic sometimes. I'll try and log it and see if maybe someone can pick something out of the log. I was running a Lightspeed protune up until about two months ago when I had to update my AP and now I can no longer use that tune..

I had a couple random stumbles, usually on the highway doing 3400rpm in 5th.
It was so sporadic I couldn't figure it out, but it was definitely an engine stumble not a mechanical issue.

After I changed the plugs (because it was time, not because I was troubleshooting this issue) I never had the stumble again.

Are you absolutely sure this is a transmission issue? I suspect it would be a fairly noticeable clunk if it was gearing. An engine stumble feels more like a hiccup.

It feels more like a hiccup. You are definitely right. I'll do plugs and go from there. Especially since I don't actually know when they were last replaced, or what they were replaced with. Wonder if it is worth going 1 step colder or just staying stock heat range since I'm not making much more than stock power. Also the on and off the throttle thing is more of a lurch than it is a stumble I guess. and that might be worn mounts too I suppose.

I had a similar issue with my car, mostly when accelerating. Changed plugs & wires and haven't had any issues since. I had a check engine light though.

Change plugs first.
If persists try o2 sensors.
