I like the Sylvan Lake proposal.

The one thing I caution if this becomes the end destination, the RCMP there are giant aholes to auto enthusiasts.  Cant even begin to count how many stories ive heard of car clubs going to Sylvan only to have everyone given tint/exhaust/ect tickets.   Parking in Sylvan......where? For such a potentially large group I think Sylvan is the last place we should be considering.

I think most of those are viable options. I'd tend to wander away from an already existing event, as we don't want to pull attention away, or ruin another club's event with the potential attention this could attract, and I'd abstain from going too far from Calgary/Edmonton, as those are our primary user bases, and we've typically kept these meets as a day trip more than anything. I'd say anything around Red Deer, or further west, that's more of less an equal distance would be ideal.

The less straight roads, the better.

I like the idea of going West of Red Deer best.  If we did something at Castrol we would not necessarily be infringing on another event/club.  For a Castrol idea to work we would only have to plan it on the same weekend as a track event.   That way we can still plan/book a section for us to have our meet but also enjoy the track event available for us to spectate

I never had any issues organizing meets there. Parking was hit or miss, but we did it more for the drive, than the standing in a hot parking lot. Also, beach, lake, sports, suntanning, wymens, dawgs, wymens, ice cream.

I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Is your vehicle stock? lol cause that'll be the only way they leave you alone in Sylvan from what Ive heard.  That has been said to me by multiple people too, not just 1 or 2 individuals. Anyone else heard bad experiences in Sylvan with a modded car? Ideally half our members would be in "modded" cars so we should confirm this early on if possible.

No. Not at all. I've been to sylvan many times without issue. I guess if you're a kiddie doing burnouts I could see issues

I drive through Sylvan frequently, with all of my excessively loud vehicles. They don't care, so long as one doesn't drive or act like a twat, there's no real reason to be pulled over.

That's not the real reason behind this thread, so let's abandon it.

The other thought is Gull Lake, which is generally quieter, less touristy, and still relatively in the middle of Edmonton and Calgary.

I have not been to Sylvan with any of these groups so I cannot state outright that no burnouts or rev-offs were performed but I was not told of any bad apples in either group that went.  If anyone else has any good or bad experience in Sylvan Lake with a group of modded cars please post up your experience(s).

I was gonna suggest somewhere like Sask River Crossing but that's a bit far for the Edmonton guys.

For a day meet, ya potentially a little far, but if camping was planned as part of the meet it can be very successful still.   Perhaps a mid August camping/showNshine meet to compliment this July meet being planned? July meet focus is on getting as many people out as possible(less commitment).  August meet by Drumhellar with less people and organized helicopter tours overhead the proposed new track down there? I think they are breaking ground this summer finally too.

Gull Lake looks like a pretty solid option. There's a few smaller roads/ parking areas along the east and west sides of the cost, and a main large parking area at the south entrance (which looks like it has restrooms, garbage bins, benches etc.)

Depends how far we want to go. Isn't Jasper like the same distance from Edmonton as it is from Calgary?

Roughly 400km for Calgary guys and 365km for Edmonton guys.  Sask River Crossing is 400km for Edmonton guys and 260km for Calgary guys it looks like.

I think there is an option between Red Deer and Jasper, roughly 200km total for either Calgary members or Edmonton members.  I remember going thru this with another group but I cannot remember the exact location.

I think getting a gauge of how far people are willing to drive in the first place to attend the meet would be more useful than just looking at equidistant venues.

Don't be sad, Spencer.  Considering how Tim's Meets are, I'm sure this will turn out great.

800km in one day is way too much.

200km each way for me, would be my max.

I agree that Red Deer is boring, but I'm also not in favour of a trip that's more than 2hrs one way.
