I have a half empty garage and a ton of time during the week to kill #justsaying

But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.

Gotta keep that ride height hella functional just a little bit longer.

Next on my radar will be an 22mm wagon front sway bar. I'll couple it with GNP endlinks. Camber bolts as well, and finally a roll center kit.

Do you think you'll need a front sway bar?  Granted, it'll be different from an STI, but Jeff seemed to complain about his FSB, and reviews on Epics say a RSB + stock front was a great set up.

If anything, what about a used STI 20mm FSB?

Yes. That by having a bigger FSB, I'll help the isspay poor dynamic camber curve the GD/GG chassis has. Caster will help me, as will more static negative camber. Having the larger FSB will then improve front roll resistance, which is good for keeping the tire happy. There's a few threads on NASIOC that basically state:

Stock FSB + Huge RSB means more oversteer but doesn't address the overall understeer characteristic (reduce front roll / camber loss)
and larger FSB and slightly larger RSB pushes the grip limit higher and balances the car towards a neutral characteristic

All this benchracing will come to light once it's all installed but it makes sense in my mind. NuTypeR has a big front FSB on his bugeye and he says he likes the darty front end feeling it gives him...I want that.

Consider MSI tophats to replace the Com-C's when the rubber on them starts to crack. CanehdianJ sold me his replacements new from Whiteline and I ended up giving them away after they cracked in a few months.

I quite liked the FSB on it's own. I dunno if it increased outright grip, but it certainly felt more agile.

On the 4th gen Legacy platform, I learnt that 1. roll center correction played a big part in gaining front grip and controlling the front end roll resistance 2. a thick sway bar also has "costs" in grip and ride quality vs perceived roll resistance and balance. Dennis Grant has a good amount of useful information on car setups for auto-x. Check out springs vs bars. You can also play with his dynamic calculator to get a rough idea of how your car will behave.

One sway bar is a free mod without having to get into the higher class, right?

Ah...  Yes.  Yes!  You're quite right...

I think a slightly bigger front sway bar with a stock rear sway bar will allow the car's front end to have good transient response and dance around, and still have stability on power coming out of corners. At least that's the idea I got from Tom (C6 GS with Hoosiers and that big wicker spoiler).

p.s. It's also Costco cash back time, right?

Haha, I don't doubt it.  I just mean, with all my senseless modding, classing in autox is an arbitrary pursuit.

Meh. Mod your car how you want, then race it. Look at RTP. He used to have a lifted Baja WRX. And he's faster than both of us.

Tom G's Corvette is faaaassssssssssssst. He taught me during Winter Driver Training out on Ghost Lake  ;D. I tend to agree with that. Make the front end more grippy!

In other news, Subaru Calgary had me booked in today for the Takata TKC-17 airbag recall. Dropped the car off at 7am and it was done before 11am. Woop.

This is interesting to me.

I have been looking at what to do with my car, which came with a 23mm front bar and a 21mm rear. Eventually I just came to the decision to change the bushings to poly and whiteline endlinks and that made the car stiffer.

The general consensus for these cars (old evos) seems to be a tight front end and looser rear. Not overly tight where the tire doesn't lean in flat on hard corners, but tight. There is still a lot more weight up there. This all made sense to me..

The Subaru consensus is tighter rear and looser front? This isn't a dig, but I know Subarus tend to understeer a lot more, having owned one.
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

Yes. I am curious to see how these parts help the dynamics of the car. I'll also let a few of the faster pedallers on this forum have a go and get their opinions.

For your car:
Stock FSB. Beefier rear. Done
Drive faster than motor cycles on off ramps. Done

Make sure you can feel the difference between understeer and oversteer before it ends in tears. Tom G can help.

I have a big bar up front and a small but still bigger than stock bar in the rear (the obs stock rear was about the size of a pencil).
I get the best handling on loose surfaces with my rear sway disconnected.
It makes flicks much slower and give it a noticeable but controllable weight transfer.
On pavement in the summer I hook it back up and as long as Im gradual with my steering inputs, the back always lets go first.

Of course my car's weight balance is probably different. And your stock FSB is probably just as thick or thicker than the one I have now. The tuna's suggestion probably mirrors what I have on my wagon, a more balanced but still slightly front biased setup than stock.

Aye. All good points guys. I am a habitual throttle chopper (i.e. dump throttle on understeer) to get the back to rotate currently. With the new stuff I am definitely going to be to re-learning
how to drive this thing. I am so excited for autoX hehehehe.

Ekai have you ever brought the OBS to AutoX?

not even once. The clutch slip is pretty bad so you have to modulate the boost to 4-5psi manually with your right foot. I wouldnt be able to pay attention to the gauge while driving at maximum effort.
