Is it possible to swap Sirius XM?
« on: February 06, 2016, 01:26:10 pm »
Just wodnering if it's possible to swap a Sirius xm system from one car to another? If so, is it something to leave to a professional or something that's fairly easy to tackle. Thanks!

What do you mean? Do you have an aftermarket headunit that supports it? If that be the case I think it'll be fine if you swap both the headunit and receiver module into whatever it is you want it in.

I have a car that has a touch screen deck with siruis xm and a subaru 2.5i with a stock headunit. I was just wondering if I could transfer all to the stock car and if it would still work. Thanks.

I imagine any subscriptions will be attached to the headunit and the receiver. Much like that of a portable unit.

This is my best guess, I don't see any reason why it won't work

Think it's easy enough to remove? There's a small wire that goes to the roof of my car with a tiny receiver

That's probably the antenna. To be perfectly honest, I don't know. In my car with how I have it all installed, yes. It is fairly easy. I assume it's fairly similar.

In my car, i have the headunit, a receiver in the trunk, and antenna on the roof. But I can't imagine it'll be much more difficult than that if it's aftermarket

The subscription is linked to the radio itself, not the vehicle. But you should let Sirius know that it's in a new vehicle, since they have it listed on your account. As for removal, it's no more difficult than removing just the headunit. There should be a small module plugged into the back of the unit, and a single wire that runs to the antenna. So the only extra work involved is pulling that antenna wiring out and running it nicely through the new vehicle.

I've always left the antenna behind in the old vehicle so the next owner could use it. I'd buy a new antenna to put into the new car.
