'08 Impreza Engine Noise
« on: February 15, 2016, 11:28:52 am »
My son has a 2008 Impreza that he ran low on oil.  It now has a knocking sound that has been diagnosed as a rod knock.

Is this something that can be repaired or is it new engine time?  The car has 108,000 km and was in great shape until this happened.

Any suggestions on where to get repairs done in Edmonton?

Thanks.

Neil

Rod knock means new engine time or at least new short block.

New engine for sure , the rod bearing is now metal slurry that's gone all through the engine and trust me it didn't do good things on the way through .

The guys at TT Automotive on 118 ave are great Subie mechanics and I'm sure they would be able to get this done for much less than the dealership would. I take my 2011 Impreza there anytime it needs something major, and it's always been very reasonably priced and without issue.
