Gyu-Kaku Calgary
« on: March 21, 2016, 03:02:54 pm »
Friend told me they're open now, basically at the corner of 6th and 6th downtown, right by Nanta. Not sure when grand opening is, but soft opening hours are 5pm - 9pm every day.

I always hit up the Gyu Kaku on Nelson whenever I'm in Vancouver, as well as Guu on the floor above it. Basically Gyu Kaku is Japanese BBQ, you can order a-la-carte or courses. The courses are usually a bunch of different meats, some appetizers and ice cream. $20 for a 60oz jug of Asahi or Sapporo. I think the food's great and the atmosphere's fun as well, and I'll be checking out the Calgary branch sometime this week, probably on a weekday so there's less people around.

Here's the menu and website: http://www.gyu-kaku.com/#!calgary/twh4c

Tried it a few days ago, food was very tasty. Ordered bibimbap, beef, pork, duck, chicken, salmon and mushrooms. Came out a bit more expensive than the Meat Lover's combo but that one's all beef basically. Place was a bit small, and definitely recommend reservations beforehand.

How does it compare to Vancouver?

Food quality is comparable, Vancouver might be a bit better but I'm not sure. I like that the Vancouver (Nelson) location feels less claustrophobic, but service was great for both places.

I think prices might actually be the same!
