Interstellar Movie (Spoiler warning)
« on: March 31, 2016, 08:17:11 am »
This is an older movie from 2014 but the GF and I watched it the other evening and both really liked it.

IMDB Link, Rotten Tomatoes Link.

It's just under 3 hours long, but it's a very captivating movie. From the very beginning with all the action that goes on, there's really no dull moments - there's always something about to happen, but it's not the kinda "predictable" waiting to happen - if that makes sense.

Ending was fantastic too. When it all comes together and you realize "holy sh*t.."  It's directed by Christopher Nolan who also did Inception which I'm sure everyone has seen. I think these are the only two movies I've seen that truly left me amazed/ thinking/ "holy sh*t... Incredible!!"

Have any of you seen it?   Any recommendations on similar movies? I wasn't expecting the GF to enjoy a sci-fi movie like this as much as she did haha.. We're thinking of The Martian next (Matt Damon, as he has a role in Interstellar too).

I saw this movie on IMAX when it came out and it was amazing. This is probably one of my favourite movies.

Very cool ending.

You can usually guess how a movie is going to end but this one was a surprise like you said which is a nice change lol.

Oh damn... I wish I had done that.  I'd pay for it to come back to just be able to experience it in Imax.  This says how good of a movie it is ;D

Such a crazy ending. I mean, neither myself or my GF know anything scientific about space .. but it was absolutely incredible. The entire thing, the shelf, all that.. When you realize and it all comes together and it's a complete circle .. that "oooooooooooh my god whaaaaaaaat!!?" moment of realization.   There's not many movies like this that's forsure..

I found an entire subreddit dedicated to the movie and there's still very active discussion regarding it there.. kinda crazy 2 years later haha.  /R/Interstellar.

Apparently if you purchase the collectors edition box set of the movie - you receive a 1 of 1 collectible IMAX strip / cell from the original.   (Check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/interstellar/comments/31c587/collectors_edition_imax_cell_megathread_post_them/)

People collect / frame them..  Some seem to be even worth a fair bit on ebay. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Interstellar-70mm-IMAX-Film-Cell-Anne-Hathaway-Brand-Handshake-Scene-454-/152022093176?hash=item2365390d78:g:DMMAAOSwHgVW7ulo)

I think one of the coolest aspects of the movie was the black hole. They ran terabytes upon terabytes of data through nasa supercomputers and that black hole is what it spat out as to what they think a black hole actually looks like. So cool!

Easily the best film of our generation, it's the Gen-Y equivalent to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The best part is that the physics of relativistic time are accurate and hold up, and the film explored just what that would do to a person's psyche.

Great soundtrack as well.

The handshake part, (at the beginning) and then connecting to the handshake again at the end ... goosebumps.

This.

I haven't seen a movie of his that I haven't liked. You name it, Inception, Memento, The Dark Knight trilogy, the Prestige and of course Interstellar.

Cool thing about Interstellar is that the action sequences didn't use CGI at all. He used real life models, although on a smaller scale (like the docking scene, for instance).
