Ahh, May. Weather has warmed up just in time for me to swap to my summers and...blow my clutch.
Well it was inevitable for a 200k+ car, just was hoping I could get into slightly warmer mornings for the bike ride to work first. It's still driveable but it really needs to be done now. I also have some leaks that will be much easier to take care of when the engine is out, so I'm thinking of pulling the engine to do the full clutch job. Plus, there's a bit of history with me and tranny crossmember bolts (see Moron, Torque Wrench).
What do you guys think? Is that a reasonable way to go about things? I wouldn't be in a rush, and I think I know what to do:
1. Order clutch, flywheel, other parts I might as well replace. Wait in anticipation and refresh package tracker hourly for 3 weeks.
2. Rent engine hoist from some generous WSC or Kijiji soul ($50 - $100?) for a week
3. Drain fluids.
4. Call in favours and present beer to attract people to my garage. Remove engine (my first time, 4-6 hours?)
5. Replace clutch. Replace seals that I might as well replace since it's easier now than upside down later (thoughts?)
6. Start cleaning things and give up after an hour
7. Drop back in (2-3 hours?). Replace fluids with new shiny fluids.
8. Beer and profit
This was roughly the process I used on my old Cherokee (though I was 18 at the time and had help from a Jeep and helicopter mechanic) so I think it will work. I'd budget myself 10-20 hours for the entire process.
What are some "might as well replace/check" things that I should be thinking of? I suppose I could/should do the timing belt because Subaru. Just new to this engine so I'm not sure what else I should be considering.
