Dang son. Looks good.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

Not too much stretch on the 245's... looks good. I was running 245/17's on RPF1's, hence my comment about weighty wheels.

You've built a good looking car there.

Yup not much stretch up front with the 245's but the rears have me a little worried (for autox and tracking), I'm thinking I could have gone with 265's in stead of the 255's but then they might rub. We'll see how these tires behave and go from there.

Finally took the car out for a day of Autocross (work is forever derailing my fun). Overall I'm very happy with the results the suspension, brakes, tires, and adjustability of everything worked great, but more importantly I forgot how much fun a RWD car is for this stuff.

Re: Singallz's GTBRFRZ86S Scioyotabaru build - Inching towards power updates
« Reply #54 on: November 15, 2016, 01:29:55 pm »
Lots of updates as I get closer and closer to adding power which is cooling, cooling, engine management, and exhaust. My goal is to be turbo'd by next spring (lots to do to prep for this)

I went here and the car nearly overheated (109F that day so not suprizing), so before I add power I need to deal with my cooling issue:

So added a Mishimoto rad and Perrin cooling lines:

If you look at old vs new its crazy how thin the thing is. When I first started tearing it down I actually thought it was the air-conditioner condenser.

Added a Perrin oil cooler due the temps I was seeing (it worried me I'd be fixing only half the problem):

The Perrin oil cooler had trouble clearing the TRD airbox so I heated it up, pressed a socket into the side of it and it was surprisingly malleable:

After that I moved on to the clutch (the throwout bearing toasted on the way back from the US, I think the previous owner rode the clutch or rested his foot on the pedal because that thing was F'd!). So why not add a light weight flywheel and sturdier clutch

Since I had the engine out I replaced the over-pipe and half pipe (2.5inch from Motive)

After that with direct injection the worry of crap coming back into the intake is a bit of a concern especially if a turbo is present so Crawford air-oil separator to the rescue

Power will come after I sell my itshay box civic sometime in the spring (right now its only good for ice racing and exhaust leak asphyxiation)

Laguna Seca! So awesome.... do you have any footage of driving on the track?

Also, I am very envious at how you're just able to add on parts, casually remove your engine to do the clutch, etc. I only wish I had the time and money to do stuff like that. Good work!

No footage, it was very spur of the moment while on vacation so no cameras and a borrowed helmet. Its been on my bucket list for years so super excited about having the opportunity to go give it a drive. Long story short, it was awesome, and I wish I could live near it (or near something like it in Calgary)

Also thanks! I hear you on the money side, for me it's a hobby (very expensive and additive hobby), but having a garage and hoist means you get to do the work yourself, and I love that part almost as much as the driving.

At some point I'll add up the total and post it up here (the gory details), it might be helpful to give everyone an idea of what goes into a build like this.

Amen.
It never ceases to amaze me the "community" aspect of gearheads/ car enthousiats! Love it.

Oh and your build is insane. Great work. Really enjoyed reading it.

Yeah they have some of the craziest noise restrictions I've seen. And how people deal with them is also pretty wacky  (lots of pipes angling exhaust). One dude was showing me his GPS based exhaust valve system he had in his Cayman to deal with the restrictions for specific locations on track.

But overall no one was all that concerned about noise, it was a tuning day and everyone was really taking it easy due to the record heat on track (109F/43C).

I was in the process of switching over to my winters when I noticed this on the centre cap:

I got a good chuckle out of it but it made me wonder what DID Toyota contribute to this car?

Off the top of my head I think it was the transmission, rear diff, and the direct injection tech.

Its the end of "sticky summer tire mode" and time for "drifty winter mode"

FYI if you've installed AP-Racing calipers you cannot run the OEM rim's without a 10mm spacer. So I added 20mm spacers because flush.

Also added some RallyArmor mud flaps for good measure:

Goodbye awesome look, hello drifty mcdrifterson  >:D

I bought it to drive it and RWD in the winter is awesome. Some of my happiest car memories are with crappy old RWD cars (i.e. my first car was an olds delta 88), drifting around corners in the snow, getting stuck and shoveling out the car. This should be fun.

I hear that, my first car (truck?) was a Mazda B2200, then a 240SX, then a mustang. So many RWD winter shenanigans. My fondest memory was getting stuck on a hill in my mustang and a whole family of 4 getting out of the civic behind me to help push  ;D

Today was not a RWD day, the snow was higher than the car is off the ground so itshay-box B-swapped ice racing civic to the rescue.

I'm so happy I kept this car and I forgot how fun it was. Also it probably belongs in the "point and laugh" thread (if it hasn't already been up there already)
