Jackal's Project Bianca (2006 BMW Z4M Coupe)
« on: August 15, 2016, 01:33:19 pm »
After a short pause between cars again,  I present Bianca.

Picked her up today at lunch.

On the second test drive Saturday.  The first one was rained out during one of our flash rains and floods a week ago.

I brought her home for some serious testing on what ended up being a 2 hour test drive.

Details to follow.

Don't use Castrol. Get Liqui Moly or Motul.

Very nice car, they're a blast to drive.

Cue the "Motul is used in race cars" tangent.

Or if you're doing short trips more than driving hard consider using Rotella 0w40 or M1 0w40.

My car sees the track more than the street so I use the 10w60.

You're retarded. This isn't a ittshay Subaru here, it's an M performance BMW.

Cool bro, isspay your own money down the drain buying unicorn oil then. I'm gonna trust ultimatt's opinion given that he actually owns an M.

Car looks good man. I really liked the Cayman, but this is also an awesome choice. Can't wait to see it around town.

But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.

That is the way this forum goes on occasion.  :o

just throwing this out there if you ever want to get rid of those wheels, i want them.

I'm not a huge fan of 19's.  I like a little more sidewall.  I don't have any serious plans for the wheels yet,  but if you want to tempt me to get them to you,  be my guest.  I'm most tempted by money.

Car looks good man. I really liked the Cayman, but this is also an awesome choice. Can't wait to see it around town.

Thanks bud.

Thanks Bimmer!

I name all my girls with a "B" name.  Not even sure why really.  It came down to Brynne and Bianca as my favourites.  Brynne sounds more pearls and short skirt,  and Bianca sounded more high heels and latex.  I chose the latter.

As an aside....  all who read this are forbid to name any cars with a "B' name. Eventually I'll need the name the rate I'm going through cars. lol

I never really planned on getting rid of the Cayman, but the market firmed up,  and I stood to make money (a respectable amount) on a car I'd owned three months.  When I got almost my full asking as an offer,  I wasn't going to say no.... well,  after I made him offer a little bit more.  ;)

Double post!!!  Screw it...  It's my thread.

So what are my thoughts for the first day?  Well,  it is quick and nimble.  It is certainly faster on the get go than the Cayman S,  and likely has 90% of the handling. That might be because the rear tires are getting close to Corvette size at 275's.  As a bonus,  This car falls into BS in the Auto-x classing,  down from the AS that the Cayman was.  So it is certainly faster with much of the handling,  but yet falls into a slightly more forgiving classing.

Now for the bad.

It has Nav,  and on BMW's that's kind of a pain in the assay.  Not as much as a couple years later,  but still nowhere near where it should have been for the day given the competition at the time.  This doesn't cover the fact that the Porsche was even worse on the infotainment,  and I'm happy to have Bluetooth for the phone in Bianca.

Storage is at a premium in the Z4M.  There is nothing of a glove box, and I can likely only keep a pack of chewing gum and some beef jerky in it.  The beef jerky has to be shredded though,  and the pack of gum half finished. In the Porsche there were pockets everywhere.  Under the armrests in the doors, above the motor, centre console, and a large glove box.  Bianca has a huge console compartment behind the right elbow,  but half of it is taken up with a DVD player.  I'll likely correct that.

The trunk fits what it needs to and that's about it.  As a single guy with no kids...  It holds what I need.  Golf clubs and an overnight bag.  I can likely double up this payload though with a careful amount of Jengasizing.

Lastly,  I see a cone or two getting demolished as I can barely see the front corners of the car over the fenders.  when I learn the car more,  I'll get the feel for it,  but it's not as easy a drive as the Cayman.

As for Wow factor....  I can say that today I have had more people compliment the car,  and give thumbs up as driving,  than I ever did in three months of owning Bernadette. Just on the way home alone,  there was four thumbs up on Deerfoot from southland drive to Stoney south alone.  You just don't see these cars on the road I guess.

Triple this itshay up!!!

Mechanically I have more confidence in the driveline for the Z4M.  The S54 is one of BMW's great motors,  and still relatively inexpensive for parts.  Realistically,  I'll be doing a full reset on all maintenance as time passes.  First up,  an oil change,  then new plugs.  After that the trans will be flushed and the valve lash will be adjusted.  All this will just add to my peace of mind moving forward.

Cool car, definitely cooler than the Cayman.

But, serious? Is that where the handbook just..... goes? That looks like the most retarded afterthought possible. Is there a lip I'm not seeing that's keeping it from sliding backwards into the rest of the trunk?

Lol.  In fact there's absolutely nothing holding the handbook in place. The handbook won't fit in the glove compartment, under the driver seat, under the passenger seat, or in the centre console.  Technically there is absolutely no place for the manual.  So to use your words, it's not so much of an afterthought, as a never did think.

Does it at least have a built in horizontal mirror so you can cut a few lines of blow before you rip an autox run?
