If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Alright alright I get it you guys don't like red.. I don't hate red, I just hate the red that comes on miatas.

On a side note, I am thinking of ordering these:

Tein Street Basic, or Advanced:
http://www.tein.com/products/street_basis.html
http://www.tein.com/products/street_advance.html

I can get the Tein Street Basic's for $580 shipped to my door.

The Tein Street Advanced are $700 to my door.

or I wait until a set comes up for sale, used.

Tein seems to have stepped it up with these, and the cost is extremely reasonable for a brand new set of coilovers.

Neither. Tein are apparently very stiff. I think you'd be better off with Flyin Miata's entry level coilovers or the new 949Racing coils.

I actually don't mind stiffness, but I'll take a look at some of those and see how they compare.

As for coilovers that I've had:
I had Skunk2 on my civic (Bouncy and terrible)
Skunk2 on my integra (Same itshay, bouncy and rough)
Teins on my GC8 (Pretty decent ride, even blown)
BC Racing on my 04WRX (Actually loved these)
Megan Racing 07STi (Loved these as well)
Megans on my IS350 (Again loved them)

The bilstein coils I had on my miata were the most horrendous things, so I'd be more inclined to stay away from overly stiff suspension on that car.

(FWIW, I don't mind the red, I just wanted to make a blue balls joke)

Fatcat motorsports have a lot of experience with Miata's. Their custom valved Bilstein dampers are very good for track/auto-x, and still offer very good comfort.

I laughed :)

Please continue to bust his balls on red.

Stay away from the tein, hated them on my friends miata, his car now feels 10x better with a "budget bilstein" setup.

Also, check out the Alberta miatas Facebook page.

Ordered the Bayson R Polyurethane Garage Vary Replica Lip

Really itching to order some suspension, but still cant decide what to do.
I'm really swaying towards the Tein Street Advanced, but reviews have said that the rears feel "bouncy".
They come with a 7/6kg springs, thinking maybe to jump up to a 8/6kg and see if that helps, or there is somebody in edmonton who has some 10/8kg springs.. might be a tad much.

Not sure what do the F/R wheel rates work out to be depending on the car's motion ratio. Higher frequency/rate in the rear will offer better ride quality. Dennis Grant has some good information about that and a really handy dynamic calculator on his website. FCM also has a couple videos talking about F/R spring rates (they call it "flat ride") on their youtube channel.

I know it is on a different car and different coils but I am running 10k/8k on my coilovers and I find it to be just fine, definitely a little stiff though.

Gooo flyin miata.. My buddy went "stiff & low" on his miata because that's what he'd done on every other car he'd ever driven, and he just kept buying different setups and wasting money because the car underperformed, then finally tried fm entry level coilovers. He initially was like "these are garbage" because his body roll dramatically increased, but then he tried cornering and was instantly sold

Wait a minute, YOU don't get to make suspension comments in other peoples threads.

I am running 10k/8k on a car that weighs literally a half ton more and I find it to be a little stiff. So yeah definately don't do that.

FTFY

The car was setup with a set of Toicko Shocks and some lowering springs, unsure of the brand. The ride is a bit bouncy, so I am looking at alternatives to dampen it up.

Ahh thanks! Makes more sense, i'll change that.

I was looking at this:
https://www.flyinmiata.com/na6-fm-v-maxx-classic-stage-2-suspension-kit.html

Might have to save up a bit more if I plan on doing this, and all the other things I want.
If I was to go with the V-MAXX setup, I would definitely be getting the sways at the same time.

The V-MAXX stuff seems like a pretty good setup. You might also want to look at what Fat Cat Motorsports sells, they often have "rival packages" to Flyin Miata.

FM definitely knows their stuff but Shaikh also knows his stuff, and it's interesting to see where they disagree.

the lotus was great at autox because it was predictable.  it rolls a lot more then people expect, but they left the dampers and sways soft because the chassis is so stiff.  I know all about wasting money on different suspension setups too :(

I like the Lotus because its firm, but extremely forgiving. I did a bit of hard cornering yesterday around the gym, and noticed the car has a very fine line from grip and breaking loose, not typical for a Miata. I think a combination of the bouncy suspension, bumpy roads, and damn near bald tires are a good combination for it breaking loose so easy. I would definitely like to get at least something done for suspension before the next Calgary AutoX event.. I really want to giver a go!

I took a look under the car front and back and noticed this.
Front:

Part number for the rear shock (HU3687) matches up to the same model as the front, might just be that the fronts are newer, thus the blue color? Could explain the bouncy/soft rear.
Rear:

Taking a look under the car, not bad for a 26 year old vehicle. My 05 forester has more rusting and itshay built up.
Definitely want to replace the end links, sway bars, possible remove the components, sand blast and powerdercoat if feasible.

Updated the first post with better pictures of the car  ^-^

Blown shocks (among other things) will make it almost impossible to have smooth transitions.

That rear shock looks swollen at the bottom, so wouldn't at all be surprised if it's bouncy! Chassis looks pretty clean for such an old car!

i suspect that if you make that car too stiff itll make it handle way worse especially for our itshay roads.  i wanna say stock suspension (just newish or close to stock) with bigger sways?  but not too big.

I had Koni Yellows with Ground Control coils on my Miata. It handled the bumps at Race City just fine.
