Topic: has anybody tried cobbs efi online training?

saw on cobbs website that its offering an online efi university course for tuning for 150$ to show you the basics. just curious if anyone here has taken it and how informative it is? i dont have a clue how the accessport and tuning works so it would be nice to just get a quick run down of the important stuff.

It's a pretty new thing, I doubt anyone here has been through it.

I'm actually pretty disappointed in the path COBB has taken here. Not related to your question, but for the sake of discussion, the AccessTuner RACE software used to be 100% free. Now, you need to take the course to get the software.

Can they really offer something worth $150? Could it be better than NSFW's Guide?

Tuning takes time and experience. I really don't see their course being of more value than the resources already available.

that was my concern, i have a feeling its gonna be some watered down run through of what accronyms mean for 150$, then unlock the software for you and tell you to have fun

It's hard to keep track, but I wouldn't be surprised if I've spent in the 100's of hours reading, referencing, and experimenting, to understand how everything behaves in the real world.

And I still don't really know what I'm doing. I feel like the course would be a snooze for me at this point.

The change is done, in part, to keep EPA off their assay.  As part of the course you basically sign a waiver releasing Cobb from what you decide to do with the software.

Sure, it used to be free....times change, features/functions/custom code are added on top of just exposing the stock ECU logic.  I am looking forward to the flex fuel support for the GD WRX/STI.

As an example...

I used ATR to adjust my drive-by-wire tables to make the car behave how I thought it should. It made me love my car all over again. If it was $150 out the gate, I would have never gotten to that point.

COBB is limiting the functionality of their already expensive product. It's frustrating.

Unless you already have a ticket i dont see how this course isnt going to be way over most peoples heads . And if its so basic that anyone can understand it then its going to be pretty useless .

well i went to efis website and read up more on their basic course (their wasnt much info on the course just bullet points) and it looks like its basically showing you how an engine works in detail, then you need to purchase an advanced class to get into fuel management and timing (another 300 us), so whether the course your required to pass to get accesstuner is going to teach you anything about tuning seems slim unless you do both but efi hasnt emailed me back with more info on what exactly is in the online course required to download the accesstuner

Well... Timing and luck aren't really by my side haha. Car started having a bit of hesitation around 2500~3000 rpm with light load on Friday. Took one data log with my AP, then the screen died. The AP still seems to function otherwise. If I had ATR, then I could still use my laptop to take data log and reset ECU through the AP. Looks like I need to send in my AP for repair, and/or take this $150 training course.
