They set the MSRP and cost to the dealerships but dealerships are free to modify customer pricing. It was very easy at Toyota for example to set a 10% cost modifier to all parts, or a 10% discount to shops etc etc. I think some of the dealerships in Calgary for Toyota were charging 10% over msrp iirc over the counter.

Are you implying that Mercedes has enough part depot's that the cost to dealer varies from province to province? Toyota is huge compared to Mercedes and they only have 2 depots in all of Canada and I think there was only 3 or 4 in the States. Cost and MSRP are uniform across Canada, and the slowest shipping rate for parts is 2 business days depending on location; in Calgary for example standard parts delivery was next business day.

...but he didn't specifically name you or your dealership. There appear to be a minimum of 2 in Calgary and 2 in Edmonton from what I can see. And giving any garage a discount is a very standard thing in the first place. I doubt he was being ungrateful, hes just pointing out the part pricing disparity from province to province. Furthermore the additional taxes in BC wouldn't add up to the prices being the same after tax with that much of a price difference.

I am not calling anyone a liar, I am saying the parts prices are not set out by dealership and there is no 20% mark up from dealerships who are in provinces without a harmonized or provincial tax in place.

I just don't want parts price bashing when I ordered him an item overnight at no cost, gave him a discount because I deal with Vex often, and then there is an issue with some sort of pricing that he wasn't even charged.

All you'd have to do is the math to see you're wrong.

HST/PST is 7% in BC.

$190.90 + 12% = $213.81

Even with tax added, the Vancouver price is lower than the price quoted from your dealership.

I think you need to take a step back and assess yourself critically.

Nobody, other than Airboy, knew what dealership Airboy purchased the part from. You decided, without being prompted, to defend your dealership by tossing out a "the taxes" claim that made no sense based on simple math. You got called out, meaning you got asked to explain yourself, and now what, I'm a bad guy for doing the math?

So much drama

Of course I appreciate the discount for the mirror, but that wasn't the point of my mini-rant. I didn't mention what I paid, or which dealership I got the part and quote from, only that the quoted prices were significantly different between Calgary (Edmonton has high retail price as well) and Vancouver.

I didn't mention the purchase price because it was a "I know a guy" price that "Regular Joe" wouldn't get. I got the "regular Joe" price quote when I went in to the dealership, both here and in Vancouver, that is all the original post was based on. I asked Ryan at Vex if he "knew a guy" and he came through so that was good.

Yah I feel like the last few posts in here could use some sweeping.

On a side note, I've got to say these cars have a bit of a soft spot in my heart. It's basically an STi hatchback with more class. My only concern, aside from the price of entry, would be what the maintenance and upkeep will look like in the long run. You will have to keep us updated what that looks like long term.

Tried the "sensor intercept/spoofing" box that I bought a while ago and was not happy/impressed with what I saw so I decided to build my own. I think sourcing the connectors was the hardest part of the whole project. Few lines of recycled Arduino code, solder in some resistors, some capacitors and Voilà!

I'd like to see they bottle the air and if it's really from Banff. I wonder if it's like soy sauce, where they just boil black hair for the colour, add salt and ship it to NA.
