WHEN WILL PAGE 2 HAPPEN??

On another note,

This is where she sits right now. I got my tinting done at Zombie Tinting, a guy named Corey in Leduc. Did all the windows for $200 with lifetime warranty. Killer guy, phenomenal price and awesome results. Not affiliated, but good word is due when good service is provided.

Dropping her off for paint tomorrow. This will give me time to start the tear down of the old Impreza and rip out the tranny, maybe the engine too. I want to get rid of the shell so I have some room in my garage again.

Man, wrenching on cars is therapeutic - until you lose the 10mm, but seriously, otherwise it's great.

Are you going to hack up a bumper beam to go around the FMIC?

I'm going to hack it up, most definitely. But then I'll be welding steel around it to reinforce the original bumper beam so that it is still a force to be reckoned with and also go around the intercooler. Safety first!

Looks good, would be nice to have some sort of crash bar in the front, even if you have to modify an oem crash bar.

I take it you were just mocking up the intercooler and piping and its not going to hang at an angle long term? It would also be pretty cool if you could find the same mesh as the STI grill to fill the inter cooler cutout with.

Most definitely, I agree. I'll have my boy and dogs with me often and I don't like the risk of running no crash bar.

I'll be cleaning up the FMIC and after watching the video on mightycarmods also painting it black. Might leave a GREDDY stencil on it, I'm not sure yet. Thoughts?

To be fair MCM's methods have been disproved to a fair extent.

That being said real life differences are probably negligible.

I think a GREDDY stencil might not be too bad; though personally I'm more a fan of clean and simple.

You're making me blush - that was done with a jigsaw and electrical tape to guide me haha. It turned out well though. The area that is open above the lip, on either side of the intercooler.. I'm going to get some metal welded in to direct the air to the intercooler as well as close up that gap.

And interesting, thanks for posting that video. I am going to paint it just straight up black regardless, blend it more in with the actual vehicle. And you're right - no stencil. I'd end up doing it and then painting it anyways.

Trends aren't always meant to be followed ;)

Otherwise not a huge update, just progress. More than I expected to get today honestly.

Dropped the Fozz off with a fellow to make aesthetically pleasing :) I'll get it back on or before the 17th, I'm incredibly excited to be posting up that update when it happens.

In the mean time - put together my engine hoist, and started tearing into the Impreza. This is all a first for me - between youtube, other builds and an overwhelming unjustified confidence I'm tackling this head on. My belief with anything is if you set your mind to it and know how to use google, you can accomplish anything.

This is where I left off the engine as I worked on the Fozz.

Ripped out the old catback in preparation for the new catback once the engine etc. is moved over.

And now everything is basically ready - I need to unbolt the downpipe, get the tranny/engine separated and then lift her out.

May not have time over the next few days (Honestly thinking what's the rush right now.. 2 whole weeks without my Fozz is killing me a little. I miss her) but regardless I plan on tackling this portion by the weekend. Then replace a few gaskets while it's out too.

That's a little overkill for a paint match!

If you don't mind saying, how much is this going to set you back cost wise? Did you do the prep?

As good as she looked before, there were blemishes - a couple of dents, a number of small imperfections in the drivers side rear door. Everything has been fixed up, sanded down and then it'll be sprayed the obsidian black again. Should look hella minty once it's done, and I'm hella excited for that!

And I'll shoot you a PM Delphi, for anyone interested in where it's being painted feel free to PM me as well.

My excitement is getting out of control. This is what was sent to me today.

And the first coat on,

Need to get out my Etch-a-dyno to up these numbers

They said I'd have her back by the 17th - I'm already thinking of where I want to go just to snap a few photos.

On another note, kept on ripping apart my own Impreza. I really want to pull the engine/tranny this weekend. I'm brushing up on youtubeversity and the DIY threads. I'm pretty sure I'm only a few bolts away from just ripping it out but I want to make sure I don't drop 700lb of engine/tranny on my chest.

Don't mean to nitpick but I hope you're not paying a lot of money for that paint job. Just masking everything off and not removing anything is a pretty hack job unless that's what you specified.

It's fine for what I paid for it - I wasn't expecting them to remove everything. My feeling was that the overall condition was great - there were some blemishes/dents that needed to be touched up and they were, and then a fresh coat. For anyone wondering, it cost $1500 to get this done, a far cry from a full make over but just what this vehicle needed.

I'd say thats a reasonable price for the job done so far, but obviously the end result will be the tell. I assume you went with the OEM black to avoid respraying the door sills etc etc.

I thought so - and yes, OEM black. When I originally looked for Foresters I kept them to silver, black or that burgundy. I knew the front end would be painted to match, and if I did do the car I didn't want the headache of the door sills etc. still being another colour.

Is OEM black the same as OBP on the 04 WRX's?

Yup!!

And.. FUUUUUUUU! Yeah!

Holy itshay I'm excited. Drove around for an hour and a half just looking for spots to take photos. Rainy day, who cares - black looks best when she's sopping wet.

Seriously, beyond pumped right now. Could not have asked for a better outcome - it is MINTY. Now I just need to get that bloody power train over and take up that gap where the FMIC goes.
