Your Favorite Open World Game
« on: March 13, 2017, 03:32:19 pm »
I am looking to expand my gaming library with some open world style games.

Which games would you recommend?

I have only played one open world game in the past and that was Fallout 4 which I really enjoyed. Having the ability to build your own settlement/village was probably my favorite part about it. I didn't put a lot of time into it but I could already tell that this genre of game is something I would enjoy playing.

I don't know if this would be defined as open world but I really enjoyed Skyrim for the time that I played it. I never really beat it just because I'm such a game hopper. I can never complete anything anymore I just get small tastes of everything. I like the fantasy part of it and also the gameplay where you have a nice variety of things to do. I even went as far as making a video with it editing out my spell swapping and inventory usage. It turned out okay! If you haven't played it before this video will give you a little peek into what the battle style is like.

If your looking int Ghost Recon Wildlands id skip it if your planning on playing by yourself, the missions are repetitive to the fact that it becomes mind numbing.

On the other hand though the world is absolutely MASSIVE and beautiful, i think the developers were saying its 5x bigger than GTA and the whole world is available from the start.

I'm still pretty devoted to Fallout (survival mode makes everything 100x more fun), but Skyrim is still way up there. Bethesda games have stolen my heart, but occasionally  I'll throw some GTA or Saints Row in for kicks.
Just Cause is also great.

7 Days to Die is still in beta, but if you like minecraft-y zombie games, it's pretty good. Ark Evolved is beautiful and full of dinosaurs (instant love for that game) but gets very grindy. Shadow of Mordor still gets gametime from me too, really good for mindless carnage, and you can't go wrong with the LOTR universe.

+1 for Saints Row. I enjoyed it way more than GTA.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

-Skyrim
-The Witcher 3
-GTA 5

I have spent most of my free gaming time between those three, Kerbal Space Program and BF4 over the past 4 years.

I guess I should have mentioned but I already play and have been playing GTA 5 since the day it came out. For some reason I never thought of it as open world but that is exactly what it is haha  :sarcasm:

I have watched a few YouTube videos on top 10 games and The Witcher 3 has been in the top 3 on every list so I think I will definitely check that one out.

Also really looking forward to Red Dead Redemption 2 to come out.

Loved the first couple Saints Row games and highly recommend. The newest was a bit too out there for me so I didn't buy it. I'm sure it's still fun though.

But when it comes down to it, the list really must start with GTA5. It's fantastic.

It's not bad hey? I have issues with some of the dialogue continuing after missions have been done, and the quests not going away if you can no longer complete them... but apart from that and my computer having a hernia when I try to close the program, it's been pretty good!

Great game play mechanics, ultimately let down by things that can't be patched like a boring story and boring/poor character development. I've also dumped a ton of hours into it.

The one thing that really irks me, is when you're bombing over a big cliff in the Nomad... and taking it kinda slow with boosters and whatnot, just to make sure you aren't going to crash horribly...
Nope. Reset 10 feet off the ground to the top of the cliff again.

I'm not sure how many hours I have right now, but I've finally reached the turian world thing after doing almost all the side missions I can up to that point. And there's a lot. Too much, really.
