Project Arachnid - Look out, insurance covered streets!
« on: April 15, 2017, 09:48:23 pm »
At some point during the last 2 years of not racing, I became old.
Not quite sure how this happened, as I'm usually immune to such human ailments.

I don't know if I hit midlife crisis, or I just suddenly thought that scarfs were "hip" and "with it".

During the ND miata reveal, I suddenly thought to myself "huh. I could have one of those in my arsenal."
But alas, the ND came without snail.

A new hero comes to the party, however. Complete with snail and LSD.

I present to you Project Arachnid, the Fiat 124 Spider Abarth.
She comes in Rosso Red with the optional Recaro seats and Brembo brakes.
She'll be used for turning around cones in an aggressive manner, as well as cruises to the mountains to carve some roads.

I picked it up during the spring snow storm that we always get, and drove it home on the stock RE050A tires.
Insurance will take care of anything that happens right?

Awesome, congrats man, car looks fantastic!

... what mountains?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

Straight off the mopar lot too eh?! Hot damn that thing looks fun! Like a miata and a z8 had a love child with a promising future... I actually really like the styling cues for it. How many of these are in canada, do you know?
Congrats!

I don't. I do know that finding one with the "race" options (recaros, brembos, and a manual) is more difficult than finding one with the luxury package and an autotragic.

So...   flat black 3m for the hood/trunk?

That's *a* plan I have, yes. I like that look.

What class you gonna compete in?

I'll start in street while I burn off the stock tires. Stock wheels are 17x7.
Then I'll likely be bumped as the wheels I'm planning to get are 17x8 to fit 235 tyres under the arches with stock suspension.

Hmm...  If the hood lines went right to the grill, maybe it would work, but I think it would look tacky and awkward.

Furthermore, that is a brilliant red, and you'd be covering so much surface area of it with the hood!

It's like this line I heard in a show or movie, where this hot lady talks to a guy wearing a shirt and sweater, and she says, "...such a nice shirt.  Too bad it's wasted under that sweater."

Nice selection Cam! I have been looking at the Miata RF myself.  I like the look of the front of the Fiat better though.

Nice car! I love the Rosso red, and the matching Rosso red.

Unfortunately, looks like your car has contracted rabies, as it appears in this picture that the car is foaming at the mouth :-\

It's a $3000 factory option that can be done with $300 worth of vinyl.
I like the look, but if I decide that it is covering too much red, it can be taken off.

Does the 3k package come with anything else or is it literally just the black on the hood and boot?

Just the paint.
And it's actual paint, I'm reading.

Well, if it's Nero Black paint, it might be OK...

Huh, I would have expected for that price it would have came as some part of a larger styling package like most other cars. I guess when they say hand painted what they really mean is they aren't setup to do it on the assembly line so they have to do it by hand after the car has already rolled off the line; even so 3k is still very overpriced even for professional paint work on that sort of area. Also is that really considered a "racing stripe"?

Personally I like the way the black looks. My vote is do it, it will protect from rock chips too.

I like the black hood as well.  Plenty of places can do it for you at a fraction of the cost.  Betacuts has always been exceptional,  and cost effective.  It's a bit of a drive for you,  but if you pencil it in on one of your trips to the mountains,  we can go have a pint while he works!

Pfft, "how hard can vinyl be?".

Plus, you've already got the black mirrors & windshield surround.
