Wow, it's been a while. This should have been done a long assay time ago but better late than never...
I'd like to sincerely thank diamondedge, Canuckrz, 05LGT, Player One, RedBimmer93 and Jukka (in no particular order) for the great deal of help each of you provided leading up to my departure from Calgary and since moving to Kelowna. I am very grateful for it and would not have been able to do it without you guys.
Prior to departing from Calgary I had (what I would consider) a relatively significant amount of work done for a magnitude of reasons: OCD getting the best of me, the maintenance was due, refusing to pay PST, and why the hell not.
After Centaur Subaru quoted me an exorbitant amount for the services included in their “Service D Package” I decided to reach out to VEX Performance to have the work I wanted complete. This involved the replacement of spark plugs, transmission & rear differential fluids, oil change, the usual checks and a compression & leak down test for good measure. I also had VEX take a sample of my oil in a Blackstone Labs bottle that I sent for testing. +1 for the service provided.
Below are the listed results from the tests:
Leak Down Test:- Cylinder 1: 5%
- Cylinder 2: 4%
- Cylinder 3: 6%
- Cylinder 4: 5%
Compression Test:- Cylinder 1: 125psi
- Cylinder 2: 130psi
- Cylinder 3: 120psi
- Cylinder 4: 130psi
For my own records I am also listing the fluids used in this service:
- Motul: 5W40 8100 X-Cess Synthetic Oil
- OEM Subaru Oil Filter
- Motyl: Gear 75W90 Gearbox & Diff. Oil
- Motul: Gear 300 75W90
- Denso Spark Plugs IKH20
Blackstone Lab Results:Next on the list of items that I wanted to upgrade were brakes. I purchased the StopTech Street Axel Pack with slotted rotors and the ATE Type 200 Amber brake fluid from Bryan. I also purchased the Techna-Fit Braided Brake Lines for 2008-2014 Subaru WRX from Touge Tuning. Both are stand up businesses with exceptional customer service. With these ready to go, and with the aid of many helpful hands (once again thanks everybody) we were able to install everything in one day and then bed the brakes proper (holy itshay adrenaline!)
James removing the brake line clip with ease:
I am also very grateful that the brakes work and I was able to make it to Kelowna in one piece. Well, besides my windshield that got hit by a stray rock in Golden which started as a chip, but then cracked, and cracked some more and finally stopped after splitting for about 12 inches. Welp, there goes my shot at passing an OOP inspection; I guess I’ll keep my AB plate for now…
Since living in Kelowna I hit the 100k milestone:
With the help of diamondedge and his rivet gun we swiftly installed the v-limited lip on my car before he had to take off for greener pastures east of Kelowna. Thanks again dude.
Lip installed – August 4, 2018
I replaced the OEM Engine Air Filter at 106,141km on Aug. 25, 2018:
Got shamelessly door dinged somewhere along the line. No worthy photo to share.
Forgot that my AB insurance was about to expire so in a matter of 24 hours had to contact my broker and have insurance updated. And roughly 3 days after that (October 1, 2018) I came out of my apartment where my car had been parked for the previous 2 days to notice that my (vanity) license plate had been stolen and replaced with an AB trailer plate – what an ordeal this was. It was found on October 9, still in town, being driven on a stolen car by a driver who held no license…big surprise there
Since diamondedge in the meantime had picked me up a new plate from the registry in Calgary the Kelowna RCMP informed me that they were unable to return my plate to me. Instead they informed me it would be mailed to Service Alberta and I could call them in 2 weeks to pick it up. Well I waited two weeks and decided to call which is when I was told by Service AB that if RCMP had in fact mail the plate, then it would be sent directly for shredding. So I immediately called the RCMP Const. back and he was able to locate and return my plate on October 23, 2018.
In having this happen it made me realize that switching over to BC insurance and registration would have made this ordeal a lot less painful and so the ball began to roll.
But before switching to winter mode, one last shot:
I unhappily put my winter tires on to abide by the BC mountain pass law. For my own record these were swapped at 107,820 kms on October 24, 2018.
I had my windshield replaced once again by Cal-Alta South. I can’t say enough good things about their service and highly recommend them.
After making it back to BC unscathed I booked and appointment to have my front window tint removed by the local shop in town on November 3, 2018 at 109,476kms. I must say, I definitely miss things about not having it anymore, but I also quite enjoy not worrying about having it – especially with the RCMP presence in Kelowna.
November 5, 2018 I had an oil change at Anthony’s Subaru as well as my OOP Inspection, which I passed without any conditions. This was a relief, and also a lot of money
just to gain 5hp:
I'm sure I missed a handful of updates and other things, I guess that's what happens when I take 209 days between posts. As for now I still have a few things to prepare for winter mode:
- Clean summer rims before putting away for storage
- Remove lip from bumper for ground clearance
- 3M or tape where the roof rails sit to prevent scratching
- Install roof box
- Buy new D2S bulbs since one of my Morimoto bulbs will sporadically fail with no rhyme or reason. These will be replaced with the Osram CBI recommended by Will at Prolightz
