we go there every year for the Dark Sky festival in late fall.
lots of awesome hiking all around Jasper. you can get trail maps at the tourist center.
just south of town is Athabasca falls. it's pretty close and worth checking out.
Evil Dave's has the best food we've eaten so far there. not cheap, but it hasn't failed us yet.
I've been hammered at the Whistlestop a few times. well worth it. Jasper Brewing had some tasty new beers last fall that I liked a little too much haha.
if you want cabins, the Jasper Park Lodge is nice. be warned that it's expensive AF and the walls in some of the cabins are super thin. the only time I stayed there we were kept up half the night with the couple next to us shagging. that, or they were filming a porno. the next day half the lodge came down with Norwalk, so the sex noises changed to violent puking noises. good times. the sushi restaurant in the lodge is phenomenal, and is only open certain nights of the week. be sure to book well in advance if that's something you want to do.
last year we stayed at the Mount Robson Inn. it was OK, price was right. it's within drunk walking distance to places with beer.
best place we've stayed so far is the Pyramid Lake Resort. really nice rooms, and the scenery is excellent. we took taxis when heading out at night, no issues.
