JDM S2K - Autocross
« on: July 15, 2017, 10:32:14 pm »
So! Back in 2016, during the autocross season, I decided that I needed a new car that I can take to the track.  Main reason being was, I was beating on my daily and didn't want it to crap out on me and be left without a vehicle. There was a whole bunch of cool cars that I saw out at the track throughout the summer. So I started researching some along with other suitable vehicles. One car grew on me more and more, every time I saw it I liked it a little bit more. So shortly after the last event of the year, I started looking for a S2000. I quickly found out that there weren't that many being sold around. And the asking price was in most cases ridiculous. I then contacted B-Pro Auto to import one from Japan, for a way better price than anything I was finding so far. It took 6 months but eventually found the right one. Relatively low kilometers and in good shape. We haggled the price down as far as we could and I had a new car. After purchasing the car it took another 2 and a half months for the car to get shipped to me. With only some slight damage and one stolen part. Nice! The front spoiler/lip was split in half when unloading and had to be removed. The shift knob must have gotten sea sick and got up and walked off, because its not on there anymore! Oh well, I've been told this is a common thing to happen, aftermarket it is.  When it arrived it was dusty from the ride over so I spent the whole day washing, clay baring, polishing, waxing and buffing it. With only some minor scratches on the paint I found it to be in excellent condition, everything works like it should and I couldn't be happier.

Once it was all shined up nice I took it out to snap some pics before it had the chance to get dirty.

Yes I'm still looking for one, if you have one I could take off your hands that would be great!

Got the car on the lift the other weekend, took a few photos.

And one from the first autocross I attended in the S2K. Quite a lot different from the Subie :p

What are the blue inserts for between the axles and diff? By the color I assume they're cusco.

Looks like an H brace to me.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

I'll bring it to the next autox (Sept. 3).  If you want it before, or aren't coming to that, shoot me a PM.

Axle spacers, to fix CV angles on lowered cars.  (Also solves a vibration if the car is lowered late in its life and the CV's are in a different extended length where the tripod vibrates in and out or the wear it'd previously created in the cup).

Haven't had access to the net for a bit, but the next autocross works for me.

And Grant is right, they are axle spacers.
Starting to look at getting an exhaust now for the car, thinking of keeping the dual look.

Movie that I put together for the last autocross of the season, played around with new video editing software. Almost made the top 10 in raw time for the first time but clipped one cone. Still was happy with the results. Time for more parts and to look ahead to the next season. Shout out to Grant for bringing me a shift knob so I wasn't gripping on to the threads, made such a difference.

Lets hope some of it rubs off! haha

I haven't driven a S2000 Without coilovers, but having the adjust-ability is really convenient, and the car handles really well.

UPDATE: - Got some new tires for the coming season. Brand new set for the front and some slightly used ones for the back.
- J's Racing exhaust ordered.
- High flow cat ordered

TO DO: - Find a suitable roll bar that works with soft top and order.

What high flow cat did you go with?

I'm curious how long your J's exhaust takes to arrive. Mine was... longer than originally anticipated. I think the original delivery was something like 10 weeks, but then we found out that they had no stock in NA, so one had to be made in Japan, shipped, and then given to me, so it took something like 3 months, through no fault of the shop.

I ordered a 70mm Berk HFC after a few recommendations.

I just ordered the HFC this week. I ordered the exhaust back in December.  It took a week or two before I heard back from the company that they couldn't source it from anywhere and it had been discontinued. So the same for me, they are making and sending me the new gen of exhaust from Japan. Was told to expect a 2 month wait so I'm hoping to maaaaybe get it soon?

STILL Waiting on my exhaust to come in from Japan. Seems to be that they are still back ordered. Looking at ordering a roll bar now while I wait. The way things are going I need to order parts a few months before I will need them I guess. In the mean time I have been having a lot of fun out at Castrol doing autocross. Feel like I am making progress this year. My class PAX doesn't really do me any favors unfortunately.  Made a video from the last event, #2 for the season. Results haven't been posted yet but I made a little video for the event.

I'm bad at recognizing people haha. Thanks for the picture Grant!
Was low key hoping you got a picture of when I DNF'ed and threw my hand up. That would have been a funny picture

And no that wasn't me. Haven't been in the city too much with the S2K
