What for? I have a few hundred hours into the game so far.

I was enjoying the game, and then they released the DLC and removed the raids along with a few other items. I know they added them back a week or so later after the community pushed back, but it was enough for me to drop the game all together.

I got really bored of it after playing several hours a day the first month straight it released with friends, and now not a single one of us play anymore
Similar to the 24,000 other people who feel the same way sadly  Waiting on the next WoW Xpac, right now
But we'll see how they do with the "special announcement" tomorrow...

I've gotten back into the grind. There's a lot of new content (depending on when you may have stopped playing) and Shadowkeep is a month away. When that drops, you'll be able to use the same account across multiple platforms and the base game will be free. I assume you'll need to buy the expansions on all platforms you use separately if you're trying to play beyond the base game though.

Iron Banner ended earlier this week - the new way to get the event specific pieces is pretty annoying and WAY more grind than before.

Solstice of Heroes is on now until the 27th I believe. It's okay; I'd like to take a couple cracks at it with a full fireteam instead of 1 other player who was off doing who knows what instead of helping take down minibosses. It's going to be a grind but I think it'll be worth it because the armour will be the new style which you can customize instead of getting random drops from what I understand.

I'm super stoked on the cross-platform character stuff coming up, as I have played on both Xbox and PC. It means I can also play with my PS4 friends. I'm hoping the expansions (which are supposed to be standalone) are account based, so that as long as the character has the expansion unlocked, you can play it on any platform.

I see the core game is now Free to play, is it worth while to play or does it need the expansion stuff to be fun?  Is there any major limitations with the free to play I should know about?

I haven't really compared the two as I don't currently play with anyone who only has the base game. I'd say it's worth it to at least check it out since it's free. There is a lot of content that's available but you may run into issues if you're trying to play with full game players. I can't view "gaming websites" at work or I'd try and track down a proper list.
I'll say that I was enjoying myself before the most recent expansion so I think it would still be fun without the expansion.

I got back into it on PC. Got my light level up finally. I can play on PS4, but I only own all the expansions on PC, and only some of them on Xbox. Nothing but base on PS4.
