3V electronics on 5v?
« on: September 29, 2017, 06:19:33 pm »
Is anyone here a components guru? I've got some components, a little circuit board a chip and a speaker that currently run on 2 AA batteries. I want to hardwire them in to car, was planning on getting a 5v regulator and seeing if those bits will run off 2 extra volts.... What you think?

I also need to run a relay that trips off the same voltage but that can switch 12v...
Anybody able to track down bladed low signal relays?? Seems like all I can find is pcb legged ones...

What man put together, man can rend asunder and then also put it together sometimes what's all this left over stuff

Shift light / beep indicator?

I've never specified low signal relays, my coil voltage is 12VDC/24VDC usually...switching 12/24VDC or 120VAC. (PLC stuff)
I don't believe they come in blade type. A quick search on Mouser w/ the filter nets me things like this:

Interesting project. I wish to know more.

Why not just step down to 3.3v? 3.3v regulators are cheap and easy to find.

Also, why are you switching 12v with a 3v signal? I doubt you'll find them bladed, that's a TO kinda deal fer sher.

I'm looking at a LD1117V33 with something like this...

Its a battery powered device (2xaaa bats) that I want to hardwire into car. Gabe knows.
I need an output from the device to trigger an existing relay on the car.

The issue is i think the chip will "overclock" on 3.3 and it might execute faster than I want lol

Probably not.

The cells start out 1.5v and the device probably continues to function until they're down at 1.2v or lower.

There are surface mount regulators that do 3.0v. Just deadbug it.

I am intrigued now as to what the intended outcome is. Ekai, draw us a Picasso bruv. Also, say no to surface mount unless you're a uckfaying wizard at soldering. Or re-flowing in your oven.
