What to do about the stock radio...
« on: October 13, 2017, 05:43:19 pm »
Well, I think the stock head unit in my '98 JDM Fozzy will have to go.

As it sits, I'm limited to AM, the U of A radio station on the FM dial, minidiscs (but it requires some help to eject them....got a free one of cello music as it was left in the car) and CD (I hope...haven't tried it yet). My concern is the amount of real estate that stock head unit takes up....it looks bigger than a double DIN head unit.

So what have folks done to swap the head unit and fill the void? Suggestions for head units appreciated ;)

You might want to try an FM band expander for now, if all you want is FM radio.

A minidisc player is pretty cool.

It is your standard double DIN space in the dash, so if all you're wanting is a single DIN radio, you can get a pocket to go above/below the radio, whichever way you prefer.

Thanks....had a chance to do some investigating and yeah, the stocker is a regular double-DIN unit (just looked funky with the way the preset buttons were laid out in a separate piece below the MD player). I'll probably swap in another Pioneer over the winter and maybe replace a couple of the speakers (the passenger front is sounding a little ragged).

Cheers :)
