2017/2018 Ski/Snowboard Thread
« on: October 18, 2017, 07:40:04 pm »
With winter fast approaching I figure might as well get the 2017/2018 ski/snowboard thread started up!

What're your plans this year? New gear you are stoked for? etc. etc. Let's hear it!

I booked a condo in Banff for Sunshine opening this year. I have never been to an opening weekend and I know it is usually pretty ittshay conditions but I just need to get out there ASAP.

Also, I am starting to build my new backyard set up this weekend. We are going to build two drop in ramps this time so we can have 3 or 4 different rails to hit.

Anyways here is a little clip of me in my backyard last year messing around. Have to click on it to watch.

I'm thinking of getting a new deck, my current is a little shorter as I used to ride a lot of park back in Ontario so got a 154. Thinking of getting a 159, my old board is a camber 157, haven't ridden it in look 8 years though lol.

Picked up a new jacket (Arcteryx Sidewinder SV in diablo red) and will be picking up some new ski boots in the next couple weeks, likely Tecnica Cochise 130 or Lange Freetour XT 130. I also got a seasons pass to Big White since I ride there quite often and have already booked a week in February which turns out to be the last week of Olypmics too! Stoked winter is coming. Let the snow fly! But not until I get my winter tires on....

Looking forward to this season! Going to try some new (to me) locations and get out a few more times.
Off to Banff/Canmore this weekend for some hiking.

Actually, of all things to look forward to, I got a sweet new pair of gloves about a month ago that I'm looking forward to using. They're a brand I hadn't heard of, but looked them up and apparently they make amazing itshay. I got them at Sully's in Cross Iron, they were like half price. Supposed to be super warm, and they have the individual index finger, then the rest as a mitten. Having one pair sucks for multi day riding.

Still looking for a new board. Thinking either an ENDVR (sp?) or a Burton, mainly with the ICS. I really like my V Rocker, but not sure if I should go back to camber for AM riding, or try one of the different options. Thoughts? I ride a bit of everything, a fair bit of trees etc.

What's the brand? I know Hestra makes one that style and they're amazing quality.

Getting excited. I hope the snow this year is as good as it was last season.

Debating going to the ski swap this weekend, but I really don't need another pair of skis...

Picked up new mittens, planning to ski a lot more this year. Will wait till after early season to tune my original Pettitors.
I don't name things I know I'm going to sell eventually. Hence why I'd never name any kids I had.

What did you pick up?

I use to always buy a new set up (board/bindings) every year but two years ago I think I found the perfect set up for my riding style.

Capita Horrorscope FK 151 with Burton Malavita bindings but I swapped out the heel strap and highbacks from a set of 2017 Burton Cartels. The board is flat kick so stiff enough to get quite a bit of easy pop but soft in the right spots for pressing etc.

There was a bunch of skis, but not much good stuff, and the prices were high.

But I did grab a pair of poles.

Every year? Damn! I have 2 boards, my old Burton is an 07, and I think my newer one is a 2010. 154 Burton Joystick with Cartel bindings. Riding back home in ON sucked so I bought a park board as that's all there was to do. Since moving west I ride more all mountain and a fair bit of trees, so I've been contemplating getting a newer board. Thinking a 157-159 for stability, and maybe trying one of the newer more hybrid camber boards. Love my V Rocker, but I feel it's less stable at speed, and my gf used to be a ski racer so.....

There was a bunch of skis, but not much good stuff, and the prices were high.

But I did grab a pair of poles.

I felt everything was a little overpriced as well. Can find better deals on kijiji IMO. The gf looked at poles, but the prices were nearly what I paid for mine new. Oh well, was cool to go to since I haven't before.

Bought a new jacket this year. I've been rocking the same jacket for close to 10 years now as the others I have picked up since then just haven't cut it for me. Hopefully this one works out!

Bought a seasons pass to mount washington along with a snowboard compatable roof rack and some meaty winter tires for the new subaru! I usually dread the 3+ hour drive up to the mountain but am quite looking forward to driving the wrx so much this winter.
Roof rack should arrive here thursday and winters are awaiting getting mounted on rims I have also just purchased.

If anyone is looking to dip their toes into the park scene or if they just want a smaller/reverse camber board for messing around on, I have a 2011 Rome Artifact Rocker 151 that I would let go for $60. It is 6 years old but has only been used 12-15 times so rides as if it was last years.

Has some spray paint on the top graphic but the base is solid and there is no delamination.

I have a 2014 or so Rome Artifact Rocker 151 that I would let go for $60.

Damn, I would definitely take you up on that if I wasn't in BC...  Current park board is on its 3rd season and getting a little too warn out for my liking

Sorry, I just checked online and it is actually a 2011 Rome Artifact Rocker but has only been used maybe 12-15 times so rides as if it was last years.

If interested I can send you photos and ship, I don't think shipping would be more than $30 or so.
