93 wrx Ej20g motor install
« on: November 27, 2017, 11:31:05 am »
Hey guys, thought I'd make a post about the motor install I'll be starting on Saturday would like to have it done this weekend. Rather than me posting in a bunch of different threads I figured I'd jam it all together and maybe someone else could use the Info as well.

So I'm picking up my motor Friday from a donor car, along with exhaust, ecu, etc etc.. anyway I'm wondering if there is anything else you guys can think of I might need or any tips? First time working on a Subaru but not my first time installing an engine, I've done swaps before as well mainly in jeeps. I bought my car without an engine for cheap and was worth it to me to save as it's in great shape. The car doesn't have a rad so that's also on the list of things to do this weekend.

Anyway I'll post back here with pics and any questions I have later this week

Also if someone can tell me what this module is under my brake booster drivers side, it's got a single plug on it and mounted to the frame. ILl get a better picture later but I though that it was my ignitor but I thought they had two plugs on it.

A USDM WRX 02-05 clutch will work for the stock flywheel. Can confirm.
Not sure what that module is however, I don't remember seeing that on mine.

Hey guys this has probably been beaten to death but since I'm waiting on a clutch and coil packs to put the motor in I'm wondering what I can do for a blow off valve. I tried to find a recirc valve but can't, heard a skyline one would work but can't find one either. I broke the nipple on the side of mine putting my turbo inlet pipe on. Oh and another thing what is everyone doing for turbo inlet piping? Subaru had discontinued the facory one for the Ej20g and I can't find one anywhere either  >:(

Jdm cars are fun right?  ;D

Hey Guys, have a 93 Jdm wrx, could easily be a very stupid question. But I'm in the process of putting my motor back in my car (not currently in) but I wanted to drain the majority of the old fuel out. So with the motor out I figured I'd just cycle the key to get it to prime into a bucket under the hood, no dice. Wouldn't prime? So I got a couple new relays and swapped them, again no luck. I got power at the relay 12v checked with the multimeter and obviously no power at the pump since the relay isn't clicking..

so I jumped the relay with a wire and the pump turns on and pumps fuel nicely. Now that it's all drained what's going on? Is it because my motor isn't in yet? Or do I have another issue?

Sorry if this is the dumbest question but id like to be able to just pop the motor in and not have many hiccups.

Thanks all for the help!

ECU is just grumpy because nothing else is plugged in.
I may scream like a dainty lady, but I punch like a fairly strong 11-year-old.

I tried to find a recirc valve but can't

I literally just had one of these up for sale.
Somebody came and snagged it off me.

Bummer! I have an adapter to fit a blow off valve to tube fitting if it a snap ring type.
eg.

Any idea where I could get one? I think that is the only other thing holding me back right now from having a running car. I'm almost thinking of swapping my intercooler (slant style) for a v3 or so. That way I can get a bolt on bov

Anyone have any idea with the white plug? I thought it may be for an 02 sensor. Installing the motor tomorrow!

Gott he car running and driving. Have a small power steering leak from the line not being tight enough cause wow that's a tight spot to get on the rack.. but got a few other things I need looked at when I get on days off.

If any of you have any idea what the follow issues could be input is appreciated.

So my first concern is my temp gauge is spiked after the car warms up, I believe I got all the air out of the coolant system but could that be a contributing factor?

Next my fuel level gauge doesn't read anything, I think that could be a fuse? Maybe it doesn't have enough gas, I put 15L in it though after I drained the tank to get fresh stuff in it.

One more issue is my dash lights keep shorting out and popping the fuse...

My speedo cable needs replaced but I have another.

Other than that I am going to I attach a photo I have no idea where this vacuum hose goes, it's the bottom one that says (to inlet, post AFM) if anyone can help that would be awesome!
