My only comfort here is that the car had 2 boost leaks when I took it apart. One on the underside of the IC and another due to a cracked vacuum hose. Between the ignition map, all the boost pumped into it, and the pickup tube, I'm not sure how the engine is still chugging along. I beat the itshay out of it on the way back to Edmonton too.

Anyhow, a few pictures.

Dope.

Nice smooth curves.
I may scream like a dainty lady, but I punch like a fairly strong 11-year-old.

^ To elaborate on that comment, here's my review of the car since it seems to be running well for the time being. I'll be comparing this car against my s2000 I sold last summer since WSC stands more for Western S2000 Club than Subaru at this point.

Power: It's hands down faster than a S2K. The 207 feels like my S2K did below 4000 rpm; despite everything I read about the engine, I still thought it would have more low end torque than it does. Although the engine revs out to 8k, I miss the sounds and feel of the linear F20C. I really can't complain about having 200-250 whp from 4500 to 8000 as it makes for a usable and predictable power band. I've also read that people think this is a smooth engine.... I don't really agree - a RB or a VQ is a smooth engine, this is manic in comparison.

Braking: The STi itshay's all over the S2K, but its also important to note that I was on stock pads and shittier tires with the S2K so it's hard to really make an accurate comparison. My S2K dived harder under braking (it did have smaller front width tires though) while the STi is more stable. The bigger rotors and pads, Brembo's, and stainless lines make a noticeable difference - who would have thought.

Transmission: Honestly, both are good. The S2K is more direct and has a much shorter throw, but the STi's is smoother and feels more robust. Both have aggressive gearing. For the sake of this comparison and taking the stance of an enthusiast, the S2K is slightly better.

Steering/Turn-in: The STi itshay's all over the S2K.

JK. The S2K goes where you point it. The STi asks you once or twice if you're sure that you want to turn. That said, once you set the car there is a ton of grip. It's more of a slow in and fast out car than the S2K. The tires make a huge difference, and on the street it would be hard to get any understeer with the car. The STi also has more body roll than the S2K, which although can add grip, is less confidence inspiring. I think a sway bar, alignment, and a stiffer set of shocks/springs (especially in the rear) would make it funner.

Overall, unless you are taking your S2K to the track every weekend then it's boring around Edmonton. There just isn't enough turns and the power isn't there to make up for it.... maybe I should have bought a Z06.

Good write up, car has come a long way man. Powerband looks great as well. Nothing beats an Airboy tune!

Great looking curve, and all the way to almost 8000!

The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

Thanks all.

I got around to doing a bit more work on the car.

Obligatory cabin air filter photo to show how dirty it is, even though it never really is, and some comment about how the car no longer smells like old Japanese men smoking.

Then I got around to actually cleaning the car. Even after a pressure washer and a hand wash the clay was filthy.

The paint was hammered. I spent 3ish hours compounding it, and another couple polishing. I'll post up some pictures after I'm done and finally seal the car. No 50/50 paint porn shots because I don't have tape but it's a lot better. I went through 3 compounding pads and 3 finishing pads.... also I don't really have any idea what I'm doing other than watching a few youtube videos.

Huge respect. That is a massive tedious, time consuming job. I’m like half way through my forester before I had to take a 2 day break

Rule 152: RPF1 looks great on anything

https://jalopnik.com/enkeis-rpf1-looks-great-on-almost-anything-1821850310

Ugh.  Counting is hard.

Also, he titles it with "almost anything," which is a weak attempt to cover all bases.  But it'd be more powerful to say that it does look good on everything and have no one able to come up with a counterexample.

Don't know why I'm so triggered.

But yes, I agree.  They look great.

There's a good portion of the lower level parkade at my GF's apartment that's completely empty. It makes for a good work area  :)

I just finished sealing the car today with CQuartz UK 3.0 and plan on fixing the headlights later this week.

Just set your car to recirculate the cab air, full blast, pop the can, close the doors and leave it alone. I forget how long the can said.

What if the car you're using it on doesn't have any kind of HVAC, but still smells musty?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

Ozone treatment is what I'd suggest.

Before (really not that bad):

After:

And then took some photo's as the car is finally clean.

Re: Beans Blue Bugeye STi - Heat Management
« Reply #122 on: January 19, 2019, 06:30:39 pm »
It's been a while since the last update, but I finally got around to working on the car again. It ran great all summer, but I noticed that the car was prone to heat soak and really down on power during the hot days, especially after sitting at a traffic light.

After driving I couldn't touch the intercooler without burning my hand so I figured I would add a few more reliability mods:
  • Heat wrap downpipe
  • Add a PTP turbo blanket
  • Reflective tape on the IC
  • Order a Perrin turbo silicone inlet (because the plastic stock one sucks and is impossible to take off)
  • New Samco turbo outlet because the old one is showing its age
  • IAG Oil Air Separator

What I've done so far.

I'm still waiting on all of there other parts to arrive. The fuel hoses started leaking during the cold days in the fall so I'm also replacing those with better clamps and new hoses.

Lol I was thinking this while wrapping it. At the same time, spending 800 + another tune to make 5-10 hp didn't make much sense either.
