The cup puller worked great to get the outer races off.

There was a few bushings that were harder to press out due to the limited space in the press, awkward shape, or small metal area surrounding the bushing to press against. I ended up using a whole saw, hacksaw, and chisel to get those bearings out. Any marring of the housing walls from the chisel came out with some 220 grit.

Also all the new wheel bearings, seals, axle nuts, and 2004 top hats showed up.

Picked up a few more parts. Should be the last of the bushings along with rear sub-frame lock down bolts and I/C rock chip screen.

Cleaned up the rear suspension with some degreaser, a few wire wheels, and some paint.

The knuckles had some rust build up on the splines. After a lot of scraping I was able to clean them up.

Before:

After:

Painted and cleaned up bolts.

And just started cleaning up the front.

I really have no idea why I'm going to all this work for an old Subaru.

In other news, I'm picking up another EJ207 to start building this weekend. The goal is to build it and make 400-500 to the wheels.

Nice car and great build thread! I can't believe I just discovered it today.

I really like the mounting of your AOS. I recently removed the A/C components from my 207 swap and was planning something similar, but I have yet to decide whether I'm going to go with Killer B, Radium or IAG. For now I simply fabricated some spacers to keep the A/C compressor bracket in place for the pulley cover mount.

I look forward to further progression here, especially the 207 build you mentioned as 400-500 at the wheels is a hefty goal for the EJ207 platform.

Running the lines for the AOS in the current location was the biggest challenge. It was hard to find a location where the drain on the AOS sat higher than the return on the engine.

I have no idea what's attainable on the EJ207 but I figured it would need to make 400-500 for a build to be worth it. Besides, beyond that I think it would be too much power for what I want from the car.

Lol it's also a slippery slope.

Stroker kit, closed deck, lots of boost?

From what I can tell on NASIOC and a few other EJ207 V7/V8 builds, it doesn't really need to be that extreme. Forged bottom end, supporting mods (exhaust/fuel/front mount I/C) and a larger turbo. I really haven't done much reading though; I will probably talk with VEX & Airboy before starting and run the build past them since I planned to have the bottom end machining and tuning done through them anyhow.

Seal in.

ABS ring and dust shield back on.

Hub pressed in.

Done.

This is just the best.
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

I got a few more parts assembled and disassembled. The trailing arms were a pain in the assay; the bushings are solid and not two halves.

For future reference.

On to the front knuckles.

I got bored of pressing itshay, so I moved on to the wheel wells and front brace thingy.

The axle boots were starting to crack and it didn't make any sense to put them back on the car after doing all this other work, so I'm currently "rebuilding" them.

Ready to be re-assembled.

People always talk about how bad gear oil smells. This was on another level. A bit of water had got in and had created these mold chunks inside the boot.... yeah legendary stuff.

Yet again, nice work! What are you using to re-paint the components? I may have missed it somewhere in the Thread.

I have the same Cusco mounts on my swap and no bushings in stock form. Prepare for NOISE hahaha!

I'm using POR15 for all the paint. And yeah, increased NVH is pretty much a given. That said, I don't think it will be that bad. The 2L is smooth and I never went with the race bushing compounds.... and I never bought and built a Subaru because I was pursing ride comfort haha.

That, or I've uckfayed up the entire feel and geometry of the car.

Rebuilding the LCA's were actually one of the hardest parts of the build thus far. Besides all the scotch brite pads and scrubbing, the large outer bushing was a PIA to press in.

This workspace seems like goals. Two car heated garage?

Also, what did you use / how did you clean your wheel wells?

Yeah, although its on the smaller side (21x21) so it's a fine balance between having space to actually work on the car and also find room for tools and parts.

I used Simple Green cleaner/degreaser or whatever it's called. Before I undercoat I'll wipe it all off with some acetone.

TLDR - The following bolt itshay was done because I wanted to learn how. It's not worth it. Just spend $1.5K on new bolts. That said, everything cost me about $150 bucks to do on my own.

So first you take the old bolts and strip off all the old coating. Acetate works great, but just about any acid will work. It's working when you see bubbles.

You know it's worked when it flash rusts after drying.

Then polish your itshay.

Use these brushes to do the heads.

Then clean any grease off with acetone.

Then make your own electroplating kit. I bought one of these thingies so I could control voltage. An actual regulator is around $200.

This one came with a bunch of different attachments. This one worked great.

Then make some alligator clips.

Next comes witchcraft. On a serious note, use epsom salts to increase conductivity as table salt can give chlorine gas off under the right circumstance. That's bad.

Make zince acetate solution.

This was half of the cost. On another more serious note, don't uckfay around with this. It's also bad for you.

You can buy an electromagnet stir thing that whirls around for $250 or just make yourself something that will agitate the solution throughout the plating process for $15.

More witchcraft.

First batch looked like dick so it needed to be re-done.

Changed a few things. Second batch was left in the yellow chromate for too long.

Third batch looking better.

What it looks like after drying. To get that shiny yellow finish you see from OEM hardware you need to add brightener and then polish the bolts before yellow chromating. That is basically just for appearance and since I only want the bolts to not rust this will work fine. Plus this already took way more time than I thought. Individually polishing bolts would add another week onto this.

And for a final serious note, don't use chromium to plate. You'll end up killing yourself which is no fun or anyone.
