"steering" Warning light...
« on: December 08, 2017, 12:10:11 pm »
Well the "steering" light lit up on my dash this AM.... I don't have any leaks and the fluid level was fine last time I checked, no weird noises or anything. So I'm thinking of just changing the power steering fluid this weekend and seeing if that is the issue.
Any other suggestions out there?. 99 leggy wagon GTB.

well, I used my vacuum bleeder to suck out all the ps fluid (it was dark red) in the reservoir... the cap said dextron,,, so I replaced it with dextron III, seems ok so far, no light, no weird noises. I'll do that a couple more times over the next while to get as much as a flush as I can with out having to bleed the system.

Sounds about right.

There are usually only pressure sensors. If everything works normally, and you have no leaks, I'd assume a loose/corroded connector or maybe a damaged wire.
I may scream like a dainty lady, but I punch like a fairly strong 11-year-old.

Im kinda hoping for build up on a sensor or something like that... and that yummy new fluid is going to lift some of it off... (well here is to positive thinking anyway)....

If the sensor light is coming on due to lack of pressure, you need a pump rebuild...  Replacing the sensor isn't the issue - IMHO - its working fine.

I did find an excellent online "how to" for my 94 WRX PS Pump rebuild (from a Legacy - similar year / same PS pump).

Bought the parts directly from Subaru (write up for mine had the numbers).

Doesn't look too hard...

Cool thanks, so far it's not come on again, but I'll save that info if it returns!
