LF JDM friendly inspection shop
« on: January 21, 2018, 05:37:39 pm »
Hey, I just brought over my 02 STI, looking for a shop or individual who won't nit pick on the inspection. I've heard horror stories of people having to swap out headlights and supports in doors being put in etc etc.

Not looking for a free pass if there are mechanical issues but I don't want to start swapping glass and what not.

Alberta Transport has been cracking down hard on JDM cars, and the shops that inspect them.

For sure you'll need headlights. Not just because of code, but the aim is atrocious for our roads. It's damn near impossible to see anything in the right ditch, even when you're on the ride side of the vehicle.

Hey man congrats!!!
When I imported through B pro auto he got it sent to a shop called Right Price Auto and they didnt do anything weird with my headlights or doors. (2000 bugeye)

https://www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Alberta/Calgary/The-Right-Price-Auto/5216311.html

The only thing they new I needed right off the bat was day time running lights and it was pretty cheep. If you know something is wrong with the car it would be cheapest to fix it before you give it to them.

My car needed brakes and that was expensive lol but they did good work, they have helped me out after as well. They know jdm cars very well and they are pretty quick to.

Just called right price, they said they have to call glass now :( it's pretty terrible when I can buy a vehicle here that really should not be on the road at all and isn't safe and have it on the road no problem but these beautiful near immaculate jdm's are getting cracked down on.

If it really pisses you off, hand write and snail mail a letter to your MLA. If you don't know who that is, https://www.assembly.ab.ca/net/index.aspx?p=mla home find him/her here. Or, call, the numbers should be provided there.

And go nuts. itchbaying about it on a forum isn't going to help.

I would call the guys at First Gear if you are in Edmonton, they have a shop they use and they do a pre-inspection so everything goes smoothly.

Great, glad it's been here two years. Ours haven't been here a month, and we're dealing with ever stricter crackdowns by our government.

The glass likely doesn't have DOT approved markings.

Rear glass is missing AS2 markings, the mechanic I took it to today to do the oop got into an argument with DOT and he's working on getting a letter from a glass guy stating that it's equivalent.

I'm about to register a 01 STi.

Did they find anything else with the car? Headlights were fine? Do you know how they wired up the DRL's?

Do you know how they wired up the DRL's?

Wish I could figure out how mine were done. The only way I can run the engine without the damn headlights being on is to pull the fuses!  :sarcasm:

Your car didn't come with them? I thought all JDM GDB's did?

They took out the front reflectors in Japan, our round side markers are a bit further back and honestly I don't know what they want out of the rear because it's identical to a usdm. I just bought some trailer lights at princess auto to make them shut up and pass it, they will be coming off immediately after inspection lol.
