Been trolling through fixing little issues and discovering more. That metallic rattle sound? That’s the sound of broken up cats rattling in the mid pipe it appears. Shifter fixed, still having intermittent issues with the car popping out of first gear when hot and taking off from a standstill. Resealed the trans plugs, found my AC system now had zero pressure in it, found a torn inner CV boot, cleaned and oiled the air filter.

Now for the fun part, had the car on stands yesterday and by chance decided to wiggle the rear wheels and the right rear wheel had massive massive amounts of play. No loose lugs, no noisy bearing, axle nut was as tight or tighter than spec. We spent a few hours trouble shooting and taking most things apart and retorquing them yet again, ended up with 0.1mm of play on both rear sides. It seems like the wheel bearing race may not have been pressed into the outer cartridge properly (manufacturing defect?). Fun fact the spec on the axle nut torque is lower than the spec on the brake caliper carrier...

Are the catalyst converters part of headers, or mid pipes?

Mid pipes after the H pipe.

I was thinking of just pulling the midpipe and punching them out completely.

Something to this effect. If I sell it I don’t have money to buy a better car, and I’ll get bent over and lose all the money I spent on fixing things. I drive it so little that it’s not costing much right now as I pick through all the little repairs that cost next to nothing.

Registered my pile for Canadian Nationals. Unfortunately without 200TW tires it falls into XP currently think.

Finally putting some miles on this thing, haven’t run into any more reliability concerns yet. Still need to change the leaking CV boot and charge the AC, and I just realized it’s been 4000km since the last oil change and almost exactly 12 months so that will happen very soon as well. Fuel economy on the highway is barely changed, averaged 10.8L/100km on yesterday’s round trip journey to Sylvan and back via Highway 22, which is maybe 0.8-1L/100km worse than previous at highway speeds, plus 6th gear is actually useable now. 2500rpm in 6th is 132km/h, 3000rpm is 159km/h.

This car has survived 300km and 3 auto x runs with no issues other than my already uckfayed AC compressor. I am impressed.

I am impressed, too. Now if you sort out the little issues and drive it more, I will be more impressed.

About as useful a post as saying you started your 2jz car with a custom straight pipe oval exhaust and leaving it at that.

Currently on the hunt for a uckfaying inner CV boot that’s discontinued from GM and haven’t found anything aftermarket either. Canadian tire has one on order but it might come back NLA.

Fresh Brotella 0W-40 with filter and tire rotation today.

Removed the steel wool and mesh to discover the driver side cats have ceased to exist. Not sure how the passenger side ones are still hanging on tbh.

Also removed the left over glue from the sponsor stickers at nationals and gave the car a quick rinse.
