Almost perfect 50% cross weight from the factory?
It does have better cross weights than my 2015 STI did (48.5%). It also has better weight distribution which is nice. The Sti with the spare and jack etc removed was 39.75% rear. With a full tank it was also 3327lbs, so prepped to the max it could get down to 3270ish. With some luck I can get to within 230lbs of that. If I went crazy and got a titanium catback I could definitely get to within 200lbs. Not too bad considering it has 30% more power and a DSG. Next Sunday can't come soon enough.

Och, Tom. Its like fishing with a hand grenade. All too easy.

I was just bullshitting using the suspension hole position rule as a basis. The only way I'll beat you is by using a weenie protest or by pouring coke in your gas tank.

They do, I've looked for some studs, but the options seem a lot more limited for Audi then they were for Mercedes when I looked. The other issue is the Neuspeed wheels run the small ball seat as the stock wheels. It seems difficult to find decent lug nuts with a ball seat. I've ordered a set of 5mm spacers and extended black bolts from Neuspeed. I don't mind the bolts that much, I just wish audi would have made a higher quality wheel hanger like Mercedes does. I mean plastic, really. I'll probably just steel the aluminum one from the wife's GLC.

I don't care too much about locals complaining, I just want to make sure I never have to deal with something unexpected popping up in the states to screw me over down the road. I actually just realized recently that I broke the rules a fair number of times with my STi by taking out the headrests. No one ever said anything, but the rules say you can only reverse them not remove them.
I wonder if leaving them in the rear floor well counts? I mean, the extra 200lb per headrest mounted up high is going to make a huge difference on your CoG.

Best part of wheel bolts is that I don't have to worry about replacing studs.

I was finally able to get my car setup as I will be running for this year. I got my good set of staggered Neuspeed RSE10 on (18x8.5-P265/35R18-RE-71R - Front, 18x8.0-P235/40R18-RE-71R - Rear), I emptied out the trunk, took out the rubber floor mats and had right around a 1/4 tank of gas.

I was pleasantly surprised with the weight. I was expecting over 3500 for sure.

Sunday was the big day. I got up at 4:45am to make the trek down to Calgary. The lot was still a bit wet and the wind was pretty cold. The first run group in the morning were having an interesting time with traction. Luckily I ran second. It still made a mess of the car but wasn't too bad. I found the car to have some really good turn in, but not much sliding from the rear like I expected. I think it will take some more time to learn how to toss it around, as it feels a lot different then the STI did.

I ended up doing pretty good. Richard is a really good driver with a well sorted and fast car. I was amazed at the Civic Type R, I looked like such a beast out there. It was the most drifty car of the day for sure.

Overall I am quite happy with how it did. For the Afternoon I jumped into Tom G's Camaro SS/1LE. I will be co-driving this Beast for most of the Calgary/Fort Macleod Events as well as Packwood and Lincoln. I have never raced a big power rear drive car. My first run was very slow, but each subsequent run I was able to improve and get more confident in the car. It is a fun car to drive with only a couple issues to deal with. Terrible head room because of the sunroof and a really nasty ice mode to keep you on your toes. I had it kick in only once for me when I hit a bump while braking, but Tom G had it come on a lot more times. Hopefully we will learn to drive around it. I placed a little lower in it but we were in the hunt. 5 of the top 7 cars in pax were in F-Street class. It should be a real dog fight.

What was the CEL issue you were having?
It was a rich condition on Idle. Audi finally has a fix for it (after 6 months  :sarcasm:). It is at the dealer right now getting flashed with the new software. Funny thing is that the light just went out again this morning. It might have something to do with gas stations switching to summer blends now.

It will only be the most drifty until I make it out in late June with the IS-F on my Ecsta LE Sports haha.

I'm pretty shocked at your car being under the 3500lb mark. That's very impressive for a car with that much power and AWD.

Re: New BS - RaceCar? Rear Sway - ASA#1 - AutoX
« Reply #37 on: May 28, 2018, 01:35:15 pm »
So I did my first suspension mod this weekend. I got a 25mm H&R Rear Swaybar. The stock one measured out to be 22mm and weighed 5lbs. The new weighs 10lbs, so my hopes are high for some good stiffening in the rear. I kept the stock plastic endlinks, we will see how long they last. The crappy part is the new endlinks would cost more then the swaybar itself. Install wasn't too bad aside from having to squeeze it in above the exhaust (which I had to lower) and buy some new triple square sockets from Princess Auto. On the road it is hard to tell much of a difference over stock. The rear felt a little bit stiffer but a very faint differnce, the real test would be Sunday night at Castrol.

IMG_9712_edited by Grant.C, on Flickr

My first run came and as I headed through the offset 4 cone gates, slight lift and the assay end starts sliding away from me, add throttle pull it back in line, repeat. Awesome, it slides a very nice amount now, can't wait to try it out at YYC again. This course design was crazy long and was a real slow speed exercise of the bicep and tricep variety. It also put the pain to the tires and brakes as there was a million tight turns and no real air cooling happening. I quit after 3 runs as my tires were cooked and the car was hitting Oil temps I've never seen before. I was happy with my 3rd run anyways and didn't think I could improve on it.

The official results won't be posted for a few days, but I did happen to get a screenshot before the wifi was turned off. I am pretty happy with how the car did. I really need to check the alignment as I'm sure it's not the best coming from the dealership.

Pretty sure I was in the car for that run. She rotates really nicely. Too bad the course didnt allow enough brake and engine cooling because you might have broke 80s.

I would suspect it is an older one, as Bruce isn't really known for buying brand new cars lol.

Looks like fun! I'm sure the car will feel very rewarding in the long, sweepy corners that YYC provides.

What tires pressures have been working the best for you?

Another week, another Autox. This time it was down to Red Deer's Westerner grounds to run with the RDSCC. It was a very small showing of only 16 drivers. It allowed for lots of runs, 8 in the morning and 8 more in the afternoon. My first run I took easier than I have ever done before as we had only a couple minutes between starting the car and doing our first run, so it wasn't close to being warm enough. The second run I took at full tilt and quickly realized traction control was fully on. It is probably more intrusive than even the STI's is. Third run we were finally back to normal. The car felt good turning in and rotation was good. Went for lunch with an S2000 driver and he said I was tripoding in some sections. It never felt like I was and the rear inside tire never spun up like the STI would with the rear bar on stiff. I even stuck the camera looking down at the rear wheel on each side and it didn't look like it was lifting, so I think it shouldn't be an issue.

I only did 4 or 5 runs per session as the tires were getting pretty hot along with the oil temps. I got some terrible sidewall wear on my driver side front tire, as all the big turns were right handers. Ended up close to 44psi and that still didn't help. Rears I was running around 38psi. Next week it is off to Fort Macleod, where I have the most trouble getting a handle on the track.
