The previous 2 events on my old 265/35R18 Front and 235/40R18 Rear felt horrible. I was starting to dislike the car and started looking at new options for racing with next season (ie: Mustang GT, 370Z etc). I was set on still giving it a chance with a new bigger set of tires. I picked up a set of 275/35R18 for the front and 245/40R18 for the rear. They give a bit more width plus some extra height which will help with the low gearing and pathetic 55mph 2nd gear.
Airdrie was the first event on the new tires. They felt good, but my results were pretty disappointing.

About this time I was reading some discussions about what pressures to run on street class cars. I was always trying to minimize my outer edge wear because I am always driving camber challenged cars. I was running close to 43psi in the fronts. Stephen Hui from Calgary was saying that he never thinks about the wear, but just what is fastest. The next event was down in Packwood and I tried dropping pressures to 39 PSI. Lo and Behold the car felt a lot better and was noticeably faster.
I ended up snagging the last trophy spot ahead of a couple people I did not think I had a chance of beating.
The next weekend we were back at it again at the Packwood Pro. This was the first time I ever used the launch control. It is pretty sweet, I was getting consistent 1.8 & 1.9 60 foot times. I ended up just losing out on 2nd place by 0.036 to my buddy from Calgary. I coned both my runs on the right side course on Sunday. If my faster one was clean I would have taken first place by a hair. If the slower one was clean I would have easily taken 2nd. This pace really has my pumped to go again next year.
On our way back home from Packwood we made a stop in Fort Macleod for the Canadian Nationals. The turnout was low compared to normal but most of the best Alberta drivers showed up. Day one was windy as hell and we ended up cancelling the afternoon runs as cones were getting blown all over the place. Day 2 was a lot nicer weather and we were able to do both morning and afternoon runs. I was running much better than I normally do on this airstrip.

Here is a shot of the top 3 cars
After Nationals I was at 35 runs and my tires need to be flipped already. I don't think they will make it to 70. I took my car out to Track Junkies on the Aug 5th holiday Monday. I wanted to see how it compared to my STi. The best I managed in it was a 131.7. My fast timed session I managed a 131.5, so a slight improvement, but it was a busy lap with some traffic issues. My next session was a nightmare as all the slow cars went out first and clogged everything up. I talked to the guy that releases the cars and got him a copy of the times so he could send us out in order for the next session. This time it worked like it should and I was able to get a decent clean run in. To my surprise I had skipped the 130s altogether and did a 129.85. I was very pleased with that, and thought I would try one my run in the last session of the day. I still had a 1/4 tank of gas. I came out of the turn 3 (the bowl) and got some nasty fuel cut, just like the STi used too. At least I know now how low I can go running at Castrol now.
I have a new set of tires going on in a couple weeks in preparation for my second trip out to Lincoln for the US nationals. I know my car will be badly outgunned, but I still think there is a small chance I can sneak a trophy out of there. Some wet conditions could help with that, and Lincoln is notorious for changing conditions.
