Huh, I only recognize you & Colin from those results...  Funny how things change.
There was only a few of the regulars that I remembered from their previous events. We also noticed that a few trees are now missing along the fence line, including the infamous one.

Got out to another Fort Macleod AutoX this weekend. It was about the windiest I have ever been outside in. The Gusts must have been hitting 100km/h. When the course was first laid out, things started flying around right away. You were spending your time on the course walk putting cones back in place. We ended up doubling all cones including the pointers. They were still flying around. We had to give out so many re-runs due to cones falling down as cars were approaching them. It was not fun marshaling, as you had to watch everything not just where the cars were going. I just about got myself ran over, when a random cone went flying, I ran to grab it without noticing the car that had just come around the corner. Luckily I was with another marshal who yelled at me to watch out. The wind was so strong that you couldn't even hear the cars coming towards you.

It was a fairly high speed course with a few sections needing 3rd gear. On my first run I learned something about the DCT's shifting. The start was a little busy so I was late with my 1-2 shift. It didn't bounce off the limiter at all, it just upshifted on its own. Tried it again and sure enough that's the default. I tried it in second gear, but it will not auto shift to 3rd. It bounces a bit and then seems to pull some power, I need more runs to really get a handle on what its doing. I did a lot better than last time I was out here. The Civic Type R kicked some serious assay again.

Someone stole his plate!
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Did the cone fall over?
I hit more cones than normal this, I'm sure it had nothing to do with the course design  :sarcasm:
I was forced to run one over even as marshalls seemed to think the last 6 elements didn't need to be watched and there was 2 random cones laying there, with one directly in the racing line. It actually popped about a foot of rear bumper trim right right out. It seems to have gone back in place for the most part.

This ended up being my fastest clean run. I had one a little faster that timing crapped out on and also had an 84.1 with one cone on my last run.

Results haven't been posted yet, but I got this screenshot at the end.

Had my alignment done today. Went from this:

To This:

I'm not sure if this is too much Camber for the rear. I might want to add some more toe out in the rear as well. Factory settings are 0 toe or more out, they don't want any toe in, which I found quite unusual .The adjustments are pretty horrible on this thing. The only movement in the front for camber was at the top bolts for the struts, and the rear camber adjustment bolt is up high behind the spring. I won't be able to make adjustments at home that's for sure. Damn German Engineers

That certainly does not allow for much adjustment on the front camber at all. It is also interesting that they want to have toe out in the rear, not a common approach. Guess they are trying to tune out understeer potentially? Too much and the balance could go pretty far off.

I can definitely feel the extra toe out I now have in the front. It is more darty on our crappy roads. I am really second guessing taking some of the toe out from the rear. I will see how it feels in Calgary this weekend and see If I should go add some more back. I should also bring my pyrometer down and check the rear tires to see if that is now too much camber. I doubt it will show much difference across the tire as the rears don't heat up half as fast as the fronts do.

You'd had toe _in_ in the rear to begin with. Negative numbers are out, positive are in.

Your car started out with a very funky thrust angle & competing front left toe out and rear right toe in.

Crap, we thought + on the machine was toe out and - was toe in. My rear is probably good then and I should get the front back to zero or a slight bit of toe out. I guess I will have to double check at home tonight with my toe plates. At least the front toe is easy to adjust on my own.

My left toe out was when I loosened the lower ball joint on just the driver's side to try and pull it out to the edge of the holes. Evidently it worked a bit. It should have been fine from the dealer. The rear inconsistencies was definitely their fault though.

So I finished up 2018 driving an ND Miata in Packwood and my first Nationals in Lincoln. They were both very disappointing finishes to say the least. I learned that I don't enjoy drive low powered very much and commited to driver the Audi for the whole 2019 season. I changed my number to get later start positions at the US events. People from Edmonton should see where I went with it.

I added some new Neuspeed endlinks to go with my H&R rear swaybar I installed last year.
Results from early autoXs:

The previous 2 events on my old 265/35R18 Front and 235/40R18 Rear felt horrible. I was starting to dislike the car and started looking at new options for racing with next season (ie: Mustang GT, 370Z etc). I was set on still giving it a chance with a new bigger set of tires. I picked up a set of 275/35R18 for the front and 245/40R18 for the rear. They give a bit more width plus some extra height which will help with the low gearing and pathetic 55mph 2nd gear.

Airdrie was the first event on the new tires. They felt good, but my results were pretty disappointing.
2019-07-06
8th in Pax out of 56

About this time I was reading some discussions about what pressures to run on street class cars. I was always trying to minimize my outer edge wear because I am always driving camber challenged cars. I was running close to 43psi in the fronts. Stephen Hui from Calgary was saying that he never thinks about the wear, but just what is fastest. The next event was down in Packwood and I tried dropping pressures to 39 PSI. Lo and Behold the car felt a lot better and was noticeably faster.

I ended up snagging the last trophy spot ahead of a couple people I did not think I had a chance of beating.

The next weekend we were back at it again at the Packwood Pro. This was the first time I ever used the launch control. It is pretty sweet, I was getting consistent 1.8 & 1.9 60 foot times. I ended up just losing out on 2nd place by 0.036 to my buddy from Calgary. I coned both my runs on the right side course on Sunday. If my faster one was clean I would have taken first place by a hair. If the slower one was clean I would have easily taken 2nd. This pace really has my pumped to go again next year.

On our way back home from Packwood we made a stop in Fort Macleod for the Canadian Nationals. The turnout was low compared to normal but most of the best Alberta drivers showed up. Day one was windy as hell and we ended up cancelling the afternoon runs as cones were getting blown all over the place. Day 2 was a lot nicer weather and we were able to do both morning and afternoon runs. I was running much better than I normally do on this airstrip.

Here is a shot of the top 3 cars

After Nationals I was at 35 runs and my tires need to be flipped already. I don't think they will make it to 70. I took my car out to Track Junkies on the Aug 5th holiday Monday. I wanted to see how it compared to my STi. The best I managed in it was a 131.7. My fast timed session I managed a 131.5, so a slight improvement, but it was a busy lap with some traffic issues. My next session was a nightmare as all the slow cars went out first and clogged everything up. I talked to the guy that releases the cars and got him a copy of the times so he could send us out in order for the next session. This time it worked like it should and I was able to get a decent clean run in. To my surprise I had skipped the 130s altogether and did a 129.85. I was very pleased with that, and thought I would try one my run in the last session of the day. I still had a 1/4 tank of gas. I came out of the turn 3 (the bowl) and got some nasty fuel cut, just like the STi used too. At least I know now how low I can go running at Castrol now.

I have a new set of tires going on in a couple weeks in preparation for my second trip out to Lincoln for the US nationals. I know my car will be badly outgunned, but I still think there is a small chance I can sneak a trophy out of there. Some wet conditions could help with that, and Lincoln is notorious for changing conditions.

I thought the Audi at the TJ event looked familiar but didn't clue in it was yours! Sub 1:30 is awesome. Where did that place in the TA run group that day?

I ended up 3rd behind Colin & Orrin, both on slicks running 1:27.xxx. I was pretty impressed, it could be possible to get into the high 1:28s as is, and probably down into the 1:26s with coilovers, camber plates and a ECU & TCU tune. Not something I would consider till at least after the warranty is up.

This was my one time on Hoosiers A6's. They were 2 years old and corded the next time I tried to use them.
