Front sti bumper swap 09 -11+
« on: March 14, 2018, 09:07:13 pm »
Im looking to get a newer bumper for my 09 sti hatch, is there any sort of problems putting a 2011+ sti front bumper on a 2009 car? I know the fender liners don't match up perfectly but is that a real issue? Any info is appreciated.

That's a good question..  I know you can install an 09 on a newer one alright.. Not too sure about the reverse but I don't see why not.. I was unaware that so much tomfoolery was afoot, as per RTP's post below

It snaps in to the major points no problem.

But fender liners, grill, and fog lights are all different, you need the whole kit.

Do i need to buy fender liners or just send it and stick it on anyways?

Buy a 2009 bumper.
The whole point of this conversation is swapping bumpers... i do not want a 2009 so thanks for the suggestion.

There will be a lot of rigging to be done with the 09 fender liners to make them work, it may not look right in the end.  Also, I believe the grille gets changed out also, on top of fog lights, etc.

Basically, as RTP said you will need a lot more of the GV hatch parts than just the bumper.  There was a previous member that did exactly what you are suggesting, and from my perspective it never looked right, at all.

If you want it to look right, you will have to spend the $, if you are not as worried then some rigging could be done.  Good luck!

Have you looked at aftermarket options? I’m sure someone has made a good looking bumper cover for a narrow body. Plus the wide body front bumper covers crack with a gust of wind.

There's a member on here (silver arrow) or on Instagram (@sullybutton) who I believe swapped his '09 bumper out for an '11+. You could shoot him a message, probably more effectively through Instagram, and ask what he did.

Are you referring to Silver Arrow's? I looked at a few pictures and I couldn't see anything at all. Am I missing something?
Maybe it was another member's conversion? I'm kind of curious to see what you are talking about. Just to take notes, future reference, maybe learn something. IDK lol
