10secdream's 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata - Selling Already
« on: May 02, 2018, 11:13:04 am »
    10secdream's 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata
    Picked up May 1, 2018 with 112,250km

After selling my Subaru I knew I wanted a dedicated summer car. I had a small list of cars that I was actively pursuing that I could enjoy for the summer and with the hopes to actually get into autocross. I wanted to keep my budget at a max of 15k but was really hoping to be near the 10k range to leave myself money left over for maintenance items, tires and performance mods. The cars I was interested in were 07-09 Honda Civic Si, 13/14 FRS/BRZ, 135i, 128i and MX-5 Miatas.

I knew right away that the Miata was probably the best choice so I kept my eyes on kijiji to see what was available. The first thing I noticed is that the Miata tax is still very strong and there is a big difference between a car that is 4k and one that is 6k. I decided to look for an example that was on the higher end of the money scale in hopes that it was a bit cleaner, well maintained, and hopefully rust free. Initially I was looking at NB Miatas but this particular 1994 NA caught my eye. Based on the kijiji ad the vehicle looked to be in excellent condition for a near 25 year old car. The car only had 112k original kms and had maintenance records going back to 2005. The Miata was painted in British Racing Green and tan leather interior. This particular car had tan leather interior, AC, ABS, Power Steering, 1.8L motor and the torsen LSD. When I looked at the car I knew it was the one right away (Fizz). The maintenance records, vehicle condition and learning about the previous owners gave me a lot of confidence in the car and would be perfect starting point for some seat time.

I gave the seller a good offer and now she is all mine. My plan for this year is to just keep up the maintenance, buy some sticky tires and race in E Stock. I may add a few legal parts along the way but I fully intend to not go full out and modify this car and maintain how original it is.

I picked up the vehicle last night with the help of my neighbor. We ended up taking the 2018 Mercedes C63S and boy what a machine that is. I can't get over how quiet it is and you cant even tell the difference in the cabin between 50kph and well something a lot faster than 50kph.

Included in the sale was a box full of new and original parts, factory set of NA Miata wheels, bottle of touch of paint and various reading materials. On the way home I function tested everything again and it is all in perfect working order (cruise control, windows, ac, heat, power mirrors, power steering, abs, radio, seat speakers, even the power antenna works but the fuse is pulled to prevent it from wrecking over time)

Here she is in her new home.

I cant get over how well kept the interior is.

Previous owner had great intentions for this car but her never quite made it there.

I had an hour to kill so I decided to take off the aftermarket intake and put the factory one back on.

That is how I left her for the night. Next step is to detail the car, replace all the fluids, get an alignment, order and mount tires and change out the brake pads.

I was so close to buying basically exactly this car a few years ago. It was the same colour, same seats, 1.8L, factory rear LSD, rust free other than the windscreen, and I messaged the guy right away. He said someone was coming to look at it but that I was next in line, first guy bought it. He wanted 2700$ for it at the time and I always felt that, as well as a Datsun 280z that the exact same thing happened are two cars that got away. So I am excited to watch what you do with this thing.
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

Holy crap that thing is mint. What'd it cost you?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

It wasn't cheap. Seller was asking 7500 and we settled on 6800.

I kind of justified to myself that the price was ok based on the new tires, new rad and hoses, and a whole bunch of other things that were done in the past 2 years.

Thanks everyone. At first the color didnt really do anything for me but I am really loving it now.

First order of business is get some detailing done, and give the vehicle a good look over. I will probably order tires very soon.

I am going to run Falken RT615K + on the factory 14s and see how it goes. Might try RE71R on the 15s after.

If I was you, I would get that hard top, coilovers ... And change steering wheel (the OEM is so ugly lol)...

Check out revlimiter. He has some great interior parts, including some nice wood shift knobs and ebrake handles that would fit in well with your tan interior.

Congrats on the purchase. Looks to be in great condition.  It's a great platform to work from, and should be a nice long term summer car.
