Haven't really made up my mind on that yet. I know to actually lap the car I need it but i don't think it is a requirement for autocross.

Not for autocross, depends on club/association/series for roll bar requirements.

I think it depends on the group organizing and their insurance.  I don't want to spread misinformation so I will leave it to someone that has run events at Castrol before.

I would like to say that either way I think roll protection is a good idea for the rack, required or not. The cost of doing it is worth it if you plan to be on a track with the car. That being said I think it is easier in the Miata, then say an S2000.

Do the hoops behind the seats on S2k count as structural roll protection? Because the S2k is on track junkies' approved convertible list.

The hoops in the s2000 are actually structural but I doubt most people will pass the broomstick test with a helmet on.

I think the s2000 passes the test because the windshield and a pillar are designed to support the weight of the vehicle in the event of a rollover. Either way it comes down to each club what they require.

Correct, some people are able to lower their seat to pass the broomstick test also in an S2K, but not often.

Yeah, I put a Hard Dog bar in my S2k, for rollover protection.  Even with lowered seats I wouldn't have passed the broomstick test, but I'm 6'4" tall and I'm pretty sure 10sec isn't.

Spent the weekend going over the Miata and giving her a decent bath. I didn't go too crazy yet just a light engine bay detail, wheel detail and I decontaminated and sealed the paint. I will probably do a light polish and protect the paint with a ceramic coating in the near future.

Took the Miata for a little drive last night and noticed the car was misfiring. I continued my journey to Canadian tire and picked up a set of spark plugs. They didn't have the NGK plugs in stock so I settled for some Champion coppers. Once I got home I pulled the plugs and the plugs looked pretty good but probably due for a replacement soon anyways. I will probably order a new set of NGK plug wires on my next Rock Auto order. I didn't get a chance to test drive the vehicle since I changed the plugs but it fired up perfectly fine.

Speaking of Rock Auto a package arrived today. Stoptech Sport pads front and rear and Centric premium brake rotors for the back. The front rotors and pads look pretty much new so I didnt bother replacing the front rotors.

Nice car!

My buddy had an exact one one until someone ran a red light on Whyte and t-boned him and wrote off the car.

I don't think it gets easier. Hardest part is releasing the spark plug from the spark plug tool when pulling it out.

Great choice for your fun car!

Will you be going to any Auto-X at Castrol this summer?
I usually attend 1 a season as I find it a lot of fun, not so much for the competition but just being out on the track and getting the most out of my dismal horsepower. lol. ::)

This weekend I had the chance to tackle a few maintenance items. First thing I did was replace the air filter. I didn't bother checking the condition of the current filter and just ordered a Wix filter off Rockauto and sure enough the current air filter was brand new. Whoops.

Next item on the list was to replace the front brake pads and the rear brake pads and rotors. It was truly a pleasure to work on a car where all the bolts just come off without penetrating oil. I really love working on a non winter driven car.

Definitely haven't experienced it on any other vehicle I have owned. Initially I thought the piston was seized but a quick good search revealed otherwise. Once I learned how it works the rear brakes went quickly.

I knew about it from owning my '91 before, but the adjuster teeth stripped themselves out because the caliper itself was internally rusted shut on one side. At least they're cheap and easy to replace...

The Protege has the same thing on its calipers, I believe. NA Miatas have a lot of partsbin crossover with the 323/Protege.

Ya i was pretty careful with those adjustment screws. One side seemed pretty tight at first and I was concerned about stripping it but everything worked out.

On the drive to work this morning I bedded in the pads. The people far behind me probably thought I was a little crazy.
