FIFA World Cup 2018
« on: July 03, 2018, 02:21:07 pm »
Very late to making a thread, which teams are people supporting around here?

Also, I was wondering if anyone wanted to watch the final on July 15 at 9:00am? The only bars I've quickly Google'd that might be open early are Jameson's at Brentwood or DT, Ship and Anchor, possibly The Unicorn, Wurst, and Moose McGuires. I was going to then go to the Stampede after to relive my Billy Talent days.

I am usually super into the WC and have been since France '98, but this year I just can't seem to get into it, I think partly to do with the early morning games and the whole thing being held in Russia.
I went to Ship and Anchor last time around, it was good atmosphere.

Teams, I dunno Iceland was cool to see there and do okayish.
Germany is kinda my team but I thought they were off this year and their early exit proved it.

Looking forward to the next couple tho, I have family in Qatar so I might go there and 2026 might be in Edmonton so that's cool.

I've probably watched 2/3 of the games and have enjoyed it for the most part.
I was supporting South Korea and was pretty ecstatic when they beat Germany. Of the remaining teams, I hope Belgium wins.
I'd be down to meet up to watch it if it's in the inner city area.

I've been a fan of Germany for the past few World Cups but have also always just supported the team with players I like, esp Manchester Utd. players. Also support South Korea a bit just because I'm trash and still haven't gotten over my high school K-pop phase yet. It's been a pretty dang entertaining WC so far!

Ship and Anchor might be fun! Otherwise maybe somewhere on Stephen's?

Been saying for years that if you dive then yellow card, dive and full on embellish then straight red.
I think it is easily done, especially with video replay now in the game.

Then we will see how fast this crap stops.

Like Neymar's so good already he doesn't need to dive. I get the arguments about how he gets fouled a lot and he received a bad injury last world cup that ended his journey and how the ref misses a lot of fouls that he gets, but the dives and foul-acting he does is just so ridiculous. Before the half in today's game against Belgium he could've gotten a penalty but he dived before he was actually fouled...and there's the whole "boy who cried wolf" aspect too.

My unemployed assay will be at K-pub for today's game. I called around and for Kensington only K-pub is open early for the two weekend big games, and The Unicorn, Nationals, Ceili's are open on 8, and I only know Ship and Anchor, Nationals, Jamesons are for sure open on 17.

Too bad Croatia lost. They played better soccer overall.
34% over 66%

I think Belgium was the best team. They also played better.
France won this cup by luck not good soccer.

I really don't care that France won, but I would not knock them down, they willingly gave up possession, this is probably the best counter attack team I have ever seen, I know in the Argentina game they were like 40-60 on possession, I think France blew that stat out of the water in terms of usefulness.
They let you work yourself out then attack when the opportunity presents itself.
