Dylan's 1994 1.8L Mazda Miata - Good-bye :(
« on: July 30, 2018, 03:41:54 pm »
I couldn't be happier to say that I finally own a 1.8L Mazda Miata!

Initially my plan was to import a Eunos Roadster as the cost of local Miata's was so high and most of them had 200 000+ kilometers. That was until Stephen messaged me with plans to possibly sell his. Originally I had no interest in his car due to the color and the tan interior (really don't like green or tan), but I figured at the very least I could go look at it and test drive it (never driven a Miata before) to see if I even enjoyed the car before importing one. The second I sat in that car I immediately fell in love. Even the tan interior had me drooling against the black and aluminum accents. After two separate test drives I asked him if he would hold on to it for me until my Legacy sold and a few weeks later I went and picked it up.

As for plans for the car, I really don't have any yet. With past cars I have always kind of rushed into suspension and wheels etc. which was fine for cars that I only planned on keeping for a year or two but I do know that I want to do this car differently. I plan on keeping this car for quite a long time and build or modify it slowly with an end goal. What that goal is I don't know, which is why the car will remain for the most part stock for the time being. Everyone always told me "it is a very slow car but it's the kind of car that while you are driving it you are always smiling", and that is exactly what I am doing. Driving it and enjoying every minute of it.

I took the car from Stephen in 100% stock form aside from the NB wheels and all I have done is replace the very ugly and large stock steering wheel with a 330mm Nardi Deep Corn wheel with an NRG short hub and 2.0 quick release.

My apologies for all the rambling but I am very excited to finally own this car.

I think the door cards are my favorite part of this car. I just love the way the aluminum speaker covers look against the black and tan.

And here is the interior now with the Nardi wheel. I also just ordered a Nardi Prestige shift knob made to match this wheel exactly. Just running the We Are Likewise shift knob right now as I didn't like the stock one.

It's just one Nardi wheel, he transferrs the same one between each vehicle he owns. It's sorta like a badge... I think that is pretty cool!

It doesn't count as transferring if you have to repurchase it every time.

Haha only reason I bought a new one for this car is the 350mm is too big in diameter for the small Miata interior and the deep dish puts it too close to my chest.

I did not, I have never liked the wood rim Nardi's. I understand that they have their place but just not in my cars. I went with perforated leather (all black) and since the upper half of this interior is all black it matches very well. Looking now, the only part I would change is silver spokes instead of black to accent the silver speaker covers on the door cards.

This thread needs more pictures. I need to check out the 330mm wheel. The 350mm wheel I have feels a tad too big.

The steering wheel matches the interior really well, in my opinion. I like it!

I know on some of the Eunos Roadsters they come stock, I believe. As for this car I’m not sure if they are or not.

I mean, I've seen some "dildo-esque" shift knobs before, but that one..well..yikes hahaha.

And I agree with what you said about the Nardi playing off the interior well if it had the silver spokes, but that one still suits it quite nicely. Congrats on the purchase, couldn't believe how clean it is when I saw it at Stephen's!

I like the wheel, it does work.
I like the stock shifter more than.... that.

But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

I think I still have the stock shift knob, if you want something like dildo-like.

Haha like I said, I just ordered the Nardi Prestige knob and that one is just temporary.  ;D

https://rev9autosport.com/nardi-prestige-perforated-leather-shift-knob.html

On another note, I fixed a very annoying rattling noise on the car. Put the car up on jack stands and noticed that a bunch of the plastic covers etc. under the car were missing clips and were smacking against the control arms and what not when driving on rough roads. Drilled a few small holes in the plastics, zip tied them tight and now the car is extremely quiet (aside from the soft top) and comfortable to drive.

The Nardi knob looks nice.  It's beating a dead horse at this point, but I think the reason why the hentai buttplug is such a sticking point is because it's so grotesque.  I mean, the Nardi one doesn't look that much different from the stock shifter...  So why not just keep that as the temp?  But, anyway, moving on.
