Cold air intake tune
« on: August 20, 2018, 01:12:54 pm »
My car is already stage 2 tuned but i have the stock air intake, if i were to buy an aftermarket one and slap it in there would i need another tune to run it safely or am i fine?

I'll let Airboy confirm but I'm like 99% sure a different intake changes the MAF scaling and that needs to be accounted for.

My stage 2 tune is an OTS tune... if that changes anything

You need MAF scaling done. This isn't necessarily a full re-tune, but it does require a reflashing of the map, and it's based on the size of the intake, so you shouldn't just grab an OTS "intake stage 2 tune".
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

The Cobb Accessport will have maps for their SF intake.  Make sure you get it with the airbox though.

Gain 50 ft-lbs, ask me how! :-)

For just a regular stage 2 the OEM intake is more than sufficient. Air intake is more of a noise Maker and offers little benifits on these cars.

I think the AEM cold air offers some small gains, but we're talking small here.

Once the exhaust has been opened up, the intake becomes the restriction.

To be honest i am looking for more sound from the intake rather than performance gains, i have a catless down-pipe too so there are no restrictions on the exhaust side. Quick side question... I got my TGV's deleted ass-well, with an intake + turboback, what hp gains would i see if i decide to pro tune? Thanks!

I can't give you a number but a protune is a more accurate way to make power with your mods. Variations in the mods and our fuel quality is never truly covered by an OTS tune.

The AEM intake doesn't make it that much louder. It makes a noise, but it's not as loud as a short ram.

Different engine. FA20 vs EJ257.

The exhaust is a restriction. Should just do open headers.
