Replacing old battery
« on: August 21, 2018, 04:33:50 pm »
I'm looking to replace the battery in my STI which is about 6 years old now.  Is there anything special I have to do to avoid having hassles to deal with?  My ECU is pro tuned by Sonny and I've read online about having to deal with radio codes (not sure what this means?).  If I just take the battery out and put in a new battery I buy from Costco myself, will the car continue to work fine? Or is there something special I have to do to make sure things go smoothly? Like I've seen some devices on Amazon you plug in to the car outlet inside and it saves "radio settings" or something.

2012 STi? Swap it. Don't fret. You'll lose your radio station presets.

Yep, it's a 2012 STI.  Thanks for the info, sounds simple.  I don't mind losing presets.

My 2012 STI has factory navi, I purchased it used and when battery was disconnected, the head unit required a passcode, and I could find no one that had it.
Deal said remove unit and ship to who knows where for way to much $$$

I actually found a hack online and was able to hack into the deck and retrieve the passcode

Hopefully you don't have to deal with the above. I think it's a cheap workaround, but otherwise the official way of getting in without a passcode required Subaru Calgary to send Pioneer my head unit to unlock.. timely and otherwise expensive

0000, 1111 are the first ones you try

I recall having a similar issue on my 2012 STi but didn't need a hack.

Also, check your manual and associated papers in the pouch in your glove box. The card with the radio code should be in there. Who takes that stuff out?

My passcode was 101054, I don't think you cooda guessed that one
And there was no stereo paper work with the passcode in the car.
I bought the car at 23k and it had been a bank repo, sold at dealer auction.

Any need to have the throttle body reset?

For replacing your battery?  No.

It’s a good idea to clean it at the same time, otherwise you can run into poor idle issues or stalling when coming to a stop.

It looks like throttle body reset is a must. Well discussed on NASIOC.
