Acceptable Steel Wheel Specs
« on: November 02, 2018, 08:23:07 pm »
Hey all,

I'm in the process of getting winter tires and wheels for my 2018 Crosstrek, and I have found tires no problem what-so-ever. Where I am running into difficulties is finding a steel wheel that I feel has acceptable specs, more specifically the offset.

My Crosstrek came with 225/55/18 on 18x7 wheels. From my research the offset for the 2018 Crosstrek is +55. I'm going to be getting 225/60/17 winter tires but the only rims that I can readily find in 17x6.5 have an offset of +40 for hub-centric wheels. I have run the numbers and sizing on wheel-size.com and the +40 offset really pushes the center of the rim far away from the center of the hub. In all of your experience and wisdom, does anyone see a major issue with running this far off of the OEM offset? or does anyone know where or a brand of steel wheels that have a closer to OEM spec?

Thanks!!

Can you not get OEM subaru steelies?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

In theory I can, but the price I was quoted as part of their winter tire package sale is ridiculous. Though I should try contacting another Subaru dealership to see what they can do for me.

The tire shops that I have gotten quotes from get MacPek/RSSW wheels.

What tire shops that you know of can get OEM wheels? OKTire or KalTire?

Urban Expressions.

+ for UrbanX.

Kal Tire can get steelies though, though it may take them some time. yella got a set for my friend, they were hubcentric.

At stock height, on a Crosstrek, I don't think +40 offset will be a big issue cuz it's got a little more height than say an Impreza of the same generation and I feel the wheel arches are larger...Since you stepped down in width as well I think it will be fine.

If this was 18x9.5 +35 and you lowered it on airbags...maybe not.

I did a bit more searching around and ended up going with these https://www.wheelwiz.ca/wheels/steel/k13200.  The company has good reviews on google, so I'll see what the wheels are like when I actually get them.
