Picked up some winter wheels the other day since my other ones were stolen. You all know by now I like to have fun with colors when it comes to wheels, any ideas what I should do with these? Keep em silver or do something a little different? I will be refinishing them myself as I don't want to spend $600 powder coating winter wheels.

On another note, the car is officially a Subaru as I have installed the mandatory Hella Horns. Had them powder coated to match my wheels, really like the way they look and of course sound.

Also, took the car on its first road trip being this low. Definitely was a bit nerve racking at times but the car made it with flying colors. It was also my first solo road trip in a RHD car so that was interesting due to passing and what not.

You should do something really crazy, like really, insanely, crazy.

For example, don't paint them, and leave them alone. That's out of this world crazy.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

I just really hate anything silver. I will probably do them in a nice gold or bronze, something a little more subtle than what I am used to.

Couple of crappy photos after I finally washed the car after about a month of rain.

If there is one thing I can't stand about these GTB's it's even when they are as low as mine the rear end is still like a foot above the ground. I need some sort of rear diffuser

Re: Dylan's 2003 Legacy GTB - Painted The Winter Wheels + RICE
« Reply #83 on: September 09, 2019, 10:25:21 am »
I decided to paint my wheels a nice dark metallic grey and I think they look great on the car. Very excited for winter so I can actually mount some tires and run these wheels.

They're obviously not perfect as the wheels before weren't perfect but I am happy with the outcome.

The car is absolutely disgustingly dirty right now.

Side by side before the clear coat which really made it shimmer.

And now, for the most important part of this post....I have increased my level of rice tenfold with this next modification.

You can say what you want but I think it is awesome/hilarious! My ex bought me the kit almost a year ago and I forgot about it and decided to throw it on yesterday.

Paint wheels a sensible colour: +5
Install underglow: -one billion

The wheels look great.  The underglow is cool too.

My tires came in on Monday and had the mounted and balanced yesterday. Two of the wheels got a little scratched but I painted those two in like 5 degree weather so I was kind of expecting them to not be very strong. Oh well, they are winter wheels.

Hopefully, this Friday I will get around to swapping my coilovers / control arms out for the stock pieces and throw on the roof rack and she'll be winter ready.

You know I like the look and the pink rims... but I hate how much wheel lip I can see. It gives me anxiety haha
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

Haha the car low enough that even with my 16K spring rates the lips smash the body of the car quite often when going over small/medium sized bumps. The rear lips are actually silver the whole way around now from that.

I guess I will just have to go with a higher spring rate next season  >:D

Or.. and hear me out.. a proper fitting grippy boy tire!

Like those lips if they didn't get destroyed from the body of the car, and you managed to never touch a curb, surely rocks and sand would have gotten them anyways. THEY NEVER EVEN HAD A CHANCE.

Haha they never did stand a chance. The front lips are untouched surprisingly.

One day I will own a car with properly fitting wheels and tires but that will not be this car.

You guys are talking about different things. tperkins means the wheel lips, you mean the front/rear lip of the car.

Nope, I am talking about the wheel lips as well. Like I said, that isn't from curbing, that is strictly from the body of the car hitting the lip while rolling.

Front lips:

Rear lips:
