Snowbreeze’s 2001 Toyota Altezza RS200 - Tein Flex Zzzzzzzzzz

My 01 Altezza RS200 Journal

After daily driving a corolla for 6 months I decided enough was enough. I needed to get back in to a rwd or awd car. I had a tight budget but Brian at Bpro found me this car for a great price. It’s been a pretty decent dd, I get between 8-9L per 100kms depending on how late for work I am. It’s pretty gutless at low rpm but I’m very satisfied with the power when I rev it out.

Tune-Up & OOP
The interior was pretty dirty and full of ashes so I assumed the owner treated it like crap, but as I started working on it I was pleasantly surprised with the mechanical condition. The po had maintained it pretty well. Changing the tranny fluid was quite the endeavour. The hose wouldn’t fit in the fill hole, so my genius assay decided to shave the edge of the hose instead of buying a new one. I spilled like 2qt in the process, part of it because the stupid Canadian tire pump leaks out of every crevice. After finishing the maintence I slapped on some new winters I had and passed the OOP.

At 117,xxxkms I Changed:
-Castro’s 5w30 and filter
-Denso Ik20 Spark plugs
-Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90 Diff Fluid
-Amsoil Manual Transmission Fluid GL5
-PowerStop Front Brake Pads & Resurfaced all 4 rotors(rears pads were practically new)

Coilovers And Wheels
I told myself I would keep it stock but then I found a great deal on some Enkei Rp01s.... and then I told myself I can’t have aggressive fitting wheels without coilovers so I bought a set of HKS Hypermax off some guy in Toronto. This turned out to be a horrible mistake. The coilovers are assay and the guy cut all connections. I had my heart set on lowering the car so I installed them anyways. At least it looked pretty.

Tires and Interior
The tires on the RP01s were bald and shortly after putting them on the car I got a flat so I put the factory wheels back on. Headed over to fountain tire a few days later and got my friend to mount some Good Year Eagle GTs in the front and some Eagle F1s in the rear after work for free. He wasn’t too pleased about it  ::)

Took some of the interior out to paint. Turned out pretty bad. Still haven’t finished this. Then I went to install a new stereo and realized the car has a factory amp and I gotta bypass it so I gave up on that too for now. I also threw on a Sparco steering wheel I had laying around.

Did you take all the pics with an iPad?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

Is it the sticky dash thing that early 00's Toyota suffer from?

Yeah, there's nothing under 4k rpm. It just doesn't exist.

Where is this factory amp?

No, my centre console just had lots of scratches.
The Amp is behind the glovebox, to the left.

Look what I found under the centre console. I think the po was cremated and had his ashes spread around the car.

Timing Belt and Accessories

Parts Replaced 123,200kms
-Timing Belt
-2 idlers
-Valve Cover Gasket
-Thermostat
-Toyota Red Coolant
-Castrol Edge Oil and OEM Filter
-Installed 500w Oil Pan Heater

I got tired of the old worn out coilovers really quick so i put the factory suspension back it. I'm gonna be shopping for a new set over the winter. I'm hoping to find a good deal during the holidays. I don't have any pictures.

The belt had already been replaced and looked like it was in good shape but i decided to play it safe and replaced it anyways. That was a good choice because one of the idler bearings was shot! I got my parts from Northshore Toyota in New Zealand. The prices were great, and they're happy to ship to NA. There was a small miss-understanding so i didn't have the new tensioner in time but i'll probably replace it in the spring. My old was was in great shape. I was very pleased with the service.

Thanks again RedandWhite for the engine manual!

Making sure everything was in time, replacing the belt and replacing the idlers was the easy part. The hard part was removing the harness blocking the belt cover, extracting the rounded alternator bolt, breaking and finding replacement for another alternator bolt and so on. The harness probably took me 2 hours, i couldn't undo the god damn plastic clips.

New Idlers and Belt went on

I had already spun the motor over a few times by hand by this point, that's why the lines don't match up in the picture.

Thermostat and Valve Cover Gasket
The t-stat was stupidly hard to replace. There's absolutely no room to work with, it's on the ps of the car under the exhaust headers. I lost 4 nuts trying to thread them on. I took a lot of trips to Edmonton Nut and Bolt...

Oil Pan Heater

Everything got torqued down. Mixed the coolant with some distilled water (50/50). She runs great!

Fixing My Crappy Work

I did a really poor job at rolling my fenders the first time, the roller was broken so i did the best i could. Rented one again and rolled them properly. I chipped the paint pretty bad on the lip, so i sanded the insides and repainted them. While i was at it i also went over this dent i have on my side sill. It's from the previous owner..... I originally thought he went over a curb, but theres no damage/scrapes under the car, the dent is from the side  ???

All of the work in this post was done around the same time as the t-belt.

Power Steering Fluid

My power-steering pump was whiny. I can see why...

Fuel Filter

New Stereo

I got a used JVC double din off kijiji. I couldn't find any wiring diagrams so i had to test each wire till i found the right ones for the speakers. My car had the 'Super Live System" and and Amp. I pulled the amp and just ran new wires. The picture below is of the clip that goes in to the amp.

Front Left - Light Brown and Pink
Front Right - Green and Blue
Rear Right - White Red and Blue Yellow
Rear Left - Blue and Dark Brown
(This one might be wrong, forgot to write it down)

Winter Setup

Installed the factory shocks back in and threw the winters on.

Santa came early ;D Got a brand new set of Flex Z coilovers! Was originally planning on getting the street basis but I got these for an unreal price off amazon (The seller was actually Tein). Can't wait till spring to throw them on!
