GD exhaust on a GC
« on: October 10, 2018, 01:48:00 pm »
Has anyone here done it? Perhaps you know of someone that has used a GD exhaust on a GC.
I have a few leads on some well priced GD exhausts, and have read that you simply need to rotate a flange, and move a hanger or two to get the exhaust to fit, but i'm looking for confirmation of that.

Here is a thread that I found regarding the install.

GD exhausts fit no problem, it’s all I ever had on my GC8, other than the stock exhaust.
Just make sure the downpipe matches the catback (ie USDM downpipe to USDM catback.)
I believe it’s only one hanger that is not used (behind the muffler) and that’s it.

Do you need to rotate the flange at all?

Not sure which flange you’re referring to as *the* flange, but no, it bolted right up, didn’t have to change or modify anything.

I just installed a GD axleback with a JDM down and mid pipe, I had to weld on about 3" of extra piping on the midpipe to make it match up (also had to rotate the flange from midpipe to axleback).

People say an entire GD turboback system does fit but I've never personally tried it.

It will. The big difference isn't GC vs GD, it's USDM vs JDM. USDM has a longer downpipe, and therefore a shorter catback section, whereas the JDM has the shorter downpipe/longer catback section, which is why you needed to weld in the extra material. If you take the entire turboback setup, turbo to tip, it should bolt straight in.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

The comments posted here can now been confirmed. A GD exhuast does in fact fit on a GC as long as you have the proper setup from your turbo back. JDM GC downpipe will work with a JDM GD exhaust. Note that the one hanger just inside the muffler will not line up, but that's ok.

Thanks to everyone who gave their input. Hopefully someone else can use this information going forward!

Here is my JDM GD exhaust compared to my JDM GC exhaust:

Soon enough. I have a lot to post lol. I've been off the forum for quite some time, so I have a decent amount of catching up to do. Keep your eyes out in the build thread for my WRX.

Also, it is not a tanabe or genome ;)

Can't wait. It's got a symmetrical can, so it throws out Stromung/MadDad/APS/Cobb. Invidia usually stamped. And your pic is taken in such a way that I can't see the juicy bits (the tip). The two resonators also throws me.

I have no idea.
