2018/2019 Ski and Snowboard thread.
« on: November 04, 2018, 07:03:24 pm »
Woohoo!! I think it's safe to say winter is among us. Who's all going to opening day this year? I wish I could go, but it's not in the cards for me this year.

I'm in need of new bindings, and I would love some recommendations. I'm definitely a weekend warrior and am an advance freerider.

Let's have a time this year!

Roam binding. First set of 390 I had lasted 5 HARD seasons of 60+ days on the hill. Replaced that with the newer model of the same binging and they have been great. I did bust one of the buckles on the newer pair and roam expressed shipped one for free. Had them back together by that weekend for riding

I will be riding Sunshine opening weekend and apparently it has been snowing like crazy there for the past few weeks so I'm very excited!

Snow report looks promising for a great opening day/weekend.

Unfortunately I won't get out until the end of November, but will have 10 days in a row of skiing :)

Didn't get out once last year, even though I bought a Sunshine card on BF, wasted. Pretty bummed I didn't get out, hope to this year.

Sunshine opening was awesome.

Been to a few openings and this by far was the best conditions yet.

Hoping to get out at the end of the month once the Vette is put back together. Picked up my skis from tuning on the weekend, this will be season 7 for them.
I don't name things I know I'm going to sell eventually. Hence why I'd never name any kids I had.

Contemplating going tomorrow. Anyone else planning on going this weekend?

Also going to be picking up a Sunshine super card (primarily because of the addition of Revelstoke... That is huge for me).

Bought this last year on BF.
Didn't go riding once even though first day was free.
Was sad.

Needless to say I learned my lesson and did not buy this year. Still hope to get out, but never know.

I ended up buying one this morning. Hopefully I'll be able to use it at Revelstoke or even Sunshine. If not I can always use it at Castle which is the closest hill to me.

In all my years out west, I've yet to have one good condition day at Louise. Granted I don't go there much anymore, but I always find it icy, slushy, and no powder.

After starting skiing last year and actually going skiing only once I went and rode some park on them yesterday at Sunridge.

Riding rails on skis is actually a lot easier than I was expecting. This was my second time on skis and although I am very sketchy at turning and just skiing in general I was able to hit most of the rails and do the full thing pretty much second or third try every time.

It is such a cool feeling to feel like a complete newb at something again after snowboarding for the past 20 years.

Ended up buying the sunshine card when it was on sale for $80. Hoping to use it at revy a few times this season as well as Marmot/Sunshine.

Anyone headed to Revelstoke for opening tomorrow?

Didn't go but vicariously lived it through Instagram - it looked like quite the opening, wow. The fact people were setting up tents at 1pm the day before to line up for the gondola is a bit much though...

I skied Big White the last two weekends, coverage is more than sufficient but I'm just happy to get back on the sticks and get my legs back.

Totally agree, Louise just has not had good conditions the past few years. I remember about 13 years ago, my first time there was my best day, it just kept snowing and snowing all day, someone was pressing the reset over and over.

Had what I thought would be a good couple days and as I was going up the lift there was like 5 snowboarders just under the lift literally plowing all the fresh powder off the run. The place has become overrun with newbs. If you did that back home ski patrol would 'X' your pass meaning you could only do easy runs. It's a money racket here, they don't give a frick as long as you pay.

Add the longer drive to the meh conditions and that's why I haven't been in probably 4-5 years. Sunshine is closer, and always has better conditions IMO.

It's looking doubtful we'll be going anywhere warm for the holidays, and won't be going the China, so hopefully get out to Fernie to ride, haven't been in a few years. Everywhere good seems to have Zike warnings, so a no go if trying to have kids. A damn shame.

Was at Sunshine on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised with the conditions. We got 12cm overnight, and although some parts of the day were windy, it was probably one of the better days i've had at sunshine in the past three seasons. Not too busy, and good lines were still available to be found around 2pm!

Headed to Revelstoke on Thursday, and it look's like we're going to get dumped on! I encourage all to get out this weekend as the storm coming in should provide good coverage for most of the interior and some Alberta resorts!

I'm so bummed. I only get to snowboard once or twice a year these days. Was scheduled to go to Sunshine on Thursday this week. Found out this morning that's the only day I can take my Class 3 road test, so I had to cancel. I can still go on the 28th, but it's going to be SO MUCH BUSIER.

Was at sunshine on Sunday. I’d say conditions were slightly above meh, but I still had a good day with friends. Might go once more before New Years.

Apparently Lake Louise is getting puked on the last couple days. 77cm in the past 24 hours. Has anyone gone?
